Villarreal v Manchester United betting predictions

On one hand, there is Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United, who are looking to win their first silverware of any kind since 2017.

On the other, we have Unai Emery – a three-time Europa League champion who is now looking to conquer his fourth crown – and a first European title for the Yellow Submarine. Coincidentally, he achieved all that success with another Spanish side – Sevilla FC.

Comparing the form of the two teams, United come out on the top and consequently, will start as the odds-on favourite. However, this being a final and with a lot at stake, they are in for a tough fight.

Villarreal v Manchester United Europa League Final Betting Predictons

Manchester United Recent Form

Ole Gunnar has guided Manchester United to a second-place finish in the English Premier League, thus assuring the Champions League berth next season. The margin between them and the champions Manchester City, however, could have been a lot better.

The final few matchdays saw United pick up just two wins and a draw in their six fixtures. In Norwegian’s defense, he was battling many games in a very narrow window and also had to deal with the postponement of the Liverpool game.

However, they did beat Wolverhampton Wolves in the final game of the season by 2-1 to end on a positive note.

The job’s done and the boys will now seek to win their second title in the competition. (Fun fact: United’s last trophy across all seasons was the Europa League 2016-17).

As for their run in the Europa League this season, they have been largely unbeaten except for the 3-2 loss to Roma in the second leg quarterfinal a few weeks ago. Even though they won 8-5 on aggregate, it did seem like a slog to some extent.

In terms of player injuries, the former European Champions will be without the services of Anthony Martial and Phil Jones while Harry Maguire remains a big doubt. The remaining spots should fill themselves.

Likely XI: De Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Taunzebe, Shaw; Fred, McTominay, Rashford, Fernandes, Pogba; Cavani

Villarreal v Manchester United Europa League Final News ahead of the betting tips and predictions.

Villarreal Recent Form

Villarreal will look to continue their flawless record in the Europa League by winning the title in the Northern city of Poland on Wednesday night.

Competing in their first-ever European final, Villarreal reached here on the back of 11 wins and 3 draws in 14 matches.

The highlight of their campaign was Unai Emery’s revenge against his former side Arsenal in the semifinal, whom his team beat 2-1 on aggregate. Having held the Gunners to a frustrating goalless draw in London, Villarreal secured their final berth and prevented an all-English European Finals.

Their La Liga campaign, however, was not this eventful. They finished 7th, missing out on the Europa League next season.

After losing to Real Madrid by 2-1 in their last match of the season, they stand to play in the UEFA Conference League next season – unless they can spring a win in Gdansk and reach the Champions League.

It will be difficult though, not only because of Manchester United’s superiority but also because of their injury problems. Samuel Chukwueze is likely to miss this tie while former Tottenham Hotspur man Juan Foyth faces a race against time to get fit.

Likely XI: Rulli; Gaspar, Albiol, Torres, Pedraza; Gomez, Capoue, Parejo, Trigueros; Moreno, Bacca

Villarreal v Manchester United Head-to-Head

The Red Devils have faced Villarreal more times without ever scoring – a first-such feat for the English side against any opponent in their history.

In the four times they have met in the past – Champions League 2005-06 and 2008-09, all their games ended in goalless, stalemate draws.

Their upcoming fifth meeting, however, promises to be a goalscoring affair.

Match Facts

  • Unai Emery’s bid to win the fourth Europa League title in a row was foiled by Manchester United in the 2016-17 season, when they beat Ajax 2-0 in the final.
  • Manchester United will compete in their eighth European final. They have won on five of the last seven instances, barring the two defeats to FC Barcelona in the Champions League more than 10 years ago.
  • When facing an English opponent in a major European final, the Spanish sides have emerged victorious in each of the last nine instances.
  • United are hunting their first title of any kind in over four years.
  • Gunnar’s men also went the entire Premier League season unbeaten in their away fixtures. The last time a club did this was Arsenal when they had their invincible run almost two decades ago.
  • Villarreal have never made it past the semifinal in the Europa League or Champions League

Villarreal v Manchester United Match Winner

Recommended Bet: Back United to win @ 1.88 with Casumo

One thing that Manchester United have going for them this season is their confidence and overall play. They are the Premier League runners-up once again on the back of a pretty goal-studded season.

Case in point, they scored 73 goals – the highest since their title-winning run of 81 goals in the 2012-13 season. Bruno Fernandes, Marcus Rashford, and Edinson Cavani have been at the heart of it, each contributing 10 goals at least, with Fernandes at 18.

Additionally, their superior record away from Old Trafford also gives them more edge ahead of their game in Gdansk. All of their four away defeats they did pick up in their campaign across all competitions came on their opponent’s home turf. The fact that United are in a neutral venue is just as good as them playing anywhere else.

Meanwhile, Villarreal are relying on the brilliance of Emery and his fondness for winning the Europa League. But it is a tall order for the inexperienced, Europa League final debutants.

However, they do have some good players in their ranks and have been unbeatable in the competition so far. Our prediction is that United will get the better of Villarreal but the Spanish team will not go down without a fight.

Over 2.5 goals in the match, Both Teams to Score

Recommended Bet: Back BTTS, Over 2.5 goals in the match @ 2.60 with Betway

Both sides have conceded 44 goals each in their respective domestic tournaments, indicating that there are some flaws in their defence.

Moreover, United’s four of the last five games have seen over 2.5 goals whereas, for Villarreal, the tally stands at three out of five. All signs point to an obvious goal-scoring affair with clear indications of over 2.5 goals in the match.

Fernandes to be Anytime Goalscorer

Recommended Bet: Back Fernandes to be anytime goalscorer @ 2.50 with Betway

Bruno Fernandes has been absolutely sensational for Manchester United this season with 18 goals and 12 assists in 35 games in the Premier League. His contribution in the Europa stands at 5 and 4 respectively.

He is more than likely to start for United on Wednesday night and given that he is a key playmaker, we can expect him to give his 100% in scoring a goal.
