Cricket fans in India and across the world can finally rejoice as the much-awaited Indian Premier League is set to resume from September 19, as announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).

There are 31 matches remaining in the IPL 2021 including the playoffs and the final, all of which will be played across the cities of Sharjah, Dubai, and Abu Dhabi.

A Tight Schedule followed by the World Cup

It will be an action-packed month for the Indian players as well as other international stars in the tournament. The 31 matches will be conducted in a span of 27 days, including five double headers.

Dubai will host the final match of the IPL 2021, slated for October 15, 2021.

The T20 World Cup is scheduled to start just two days later from October 17 although, UAE and Oman are the host nations so logistically, it should not be that big a problem for the players.

Moreover, the momentum from the Indian Premier League should help the stars perform well in the World Cup. But on the flip side, constant back to back fixtures, bio-bubbles, and fatigue may also play spoilsport. Plus, the overseas players may also opt to leave the tournament in early October and join their respective country’s camps in preparations for the World Cup.

The evening fixtures will begin at 6:00 pm local time (7:30 pm IST) while day fixtures will start at 2:00 pm local time (3:30 pm IST).

The action begins with Chennai Super Kings taking on Mumbai Indians on September 19 in Dubai. The next day, Kolkata Knight Riders will take on Royal Challengers Bangalore in Abu Dhabi.

The final league game will be played between RCB and Delhi Capitals on October 8 in Dubai with playoffs beginning from the 10th of the month.

Current Standings

As things stand, Delhi Capitals lead the table with 12 points from six wins in eight matches. Chennai Super Kings and Bangalore are at the 2nd and 3rd spot respectively with 10 points while the two-time defending champions Mumbai Indians are at the 4th place with eight.

Sunrisers Hyderabad sit at the bottom of the table with just one win in their seven thus far.

Seeing that the IPL 2020 was also hosted in the UAE, players are well-versed with the conditions. It will be interesting to see how the tournament goes, especially considering that the larger focus will be on the upcoming World Cup.
