Ashleigh Barty vs Bianca Andreescu Head to Head

This is the first meeting between the two players on the tour.

Andreescu to win: why is this a good bet?

Currently ranked World No. 9, Bianca Andreescu is looking to win her fourth big title at just 20 years of age.

She rose to prominence in 2019 where she won the Indian Wells Open, Canadian Open, and the US Open, beating some of the biggest names in tennis like Serena Williams, Angelique Kerber, Caroline Wozniacki, Karoline Pliskova, and Sofia Kenin.

Additionally, she also holds a good lead in the head-to-head tally against players like Garbine Muguruza, Elina Svitolina, and Kiki Bertens.

Many of these players are years ahead in terms of experience – and for Andreescu to beat them with ease certainly tells us that she is an absolutely formidable player.

After sitting out most of the last season due to the pandemic, the Canadian started her 2021 spell in the Australian Open.

She lost there in round two to Su-Wei Hsieh but did manage to follow it with a semifinal run in the Phillip Island Trophy next, where she bowed out to Marie Bouzkova.

Andreescu next arrived in Miami in somewhat familiar territory and soon found her rhythm. With a bye in the second round, she moved past Tereza Martincova, Amanda Anisimova, and Mugurza to reach the quarterfinal.

During her campaign, she found herself in problematic positions many times but she fought back in style.

There, she met Sara Sorribes Tormo and beat her 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 to reach the semis and face Maria Sakkari.

Her match against Sakkari was quite a demanding one and came down to the wire. Andreescu’s win came on the back of her winning two tie-breaks; she ultimately took the match 7-6(9), 3-6, 7-6(4).

What about Ashleigh Barty?

The 24-year-old Barty has had a significantly easier run than Andreescu in Miami.

Impressively, her journey included wins over the Grand Slam winners Jelena Ostapenko and Victoria Azarenka, before moving on to the top 10 players like Aryna Sabalenka and Elina Svitolina. Even though the Aussie did lose a set or two during her campaign, she was never in real trouble.

Barty is on the prowl for her second singles title in 2021, with the first one coming in the Yarra Valley Classic. After winning that title, she reached the quarterfinal in the Australian Open where she succumbed to Karolina Muchova.

Ash Barty will place Bianca Andreescu in the final of the Miami Open 2021

She concluded her time in Australia with a stint in Adelaide International where she lost to Danielle Collins.

Barty has done well to establish herself at the top of the pecking order in the rankings. However, if we are to see her last few losses on the tour, a majority of them have come at the hands of underdogs and at times, younger players.

Given the menacing form of Andreescu and the fact that she has a slight ‘home’ advantage, Barty needs to be cautious here.

The Canadian’s fighting spirit is second to none and having already set the precedent of beating big players, she will fancy her chances of doing it again.

Over 20.5 games in the match: Why is this a good bet?

All the matches that Andreescu has played in Miami so far have seen over 19.5 games. Similarly, Barty has seen her share of the matches that ended on a similar note.

Given that this is the final match, we can expect a quality match of tennis with several games played, one that can possibly see all three sets play out.
