Sri Lanka vs India Betting Odds

Up next are our free cricket betting tips for a match that can go pretty much either way. Sri Lanka pulled a brilliant win against their northern neighbours on Wednesday night after taking advantage of the Covid-19 hit Indian contingent.

They will look to retain that momentum heading into the match on Thursday but like for like, Indian players still remain superior to Sri Lanka’s, at least on paper.

For that reason, I’m going to back India to win the match and the T20 series.

Sri Lanka v India 3rd T20I Predictions, Preview, and Betting Tips - Team News and Form

Sri Lanka Team News

Sri Lanka will be pleased with their performance in Colombo, having picked up only their second T20 international victory in the last two years.

The Lankans won the toss and chose to field. This time around, their bowlers were fairly impressive as they managed to restrict India to a small total of 132-5. The hosts used eight bowlers available at their disposal – a tactic that certainly worked for them.

Akila Dananjaya picked up a couple of wickets while Wanindu Hasaranga, Dushamantha Chameera, and Dasun Shanaka got a wicket each.

When they came on to bat, Sri Lanka struggled a bit as they lost their openers quite early in the chase. Avishka Fernando, Sadeera Samarawickrama, and Shanaka contributed just 22 runs between them before getting out. Meanwhile, Minod Bhanuka’s 36 off 31 added some substance to the chase.

Sri Lanka were 66-4 in 11.4 overs and at that stage, it still looked like India would march on to seal the series. However, Dhananjaya de Silva’s 40 off 34 and Chamika Karunaratne’s 12 off 6, in the end, got them over the line with 133-6.

Sri Lanka won the match by 4 wickets with 2 balls to spare.

Sri Lanka Likely XI

Avishka Fernando, Minod Bhanuka, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Dhananjaya de Silva, Charith Asalanka, Dasun Shanaka, Wanindu Hasaranga, Chamika Karunaratne, Akila Dananjaya, Dushmantha Chameera, Ashen Bandara

Sri Lanka vs India Betting Tips Predictions - 3rd T20I Team News and Player Form

India Team News

India’s squad on Wednesday saw four debutants – Chetan Sakariya, Devdutt Paddikal, Nitish Rana, and Ruturaj Gaikwad, following the isolation of Krunal Pandya and his close contacts as per the Covid-19 protocols.

Shikhar Dhawan once again played a captain’s innings and scored 40 runs to be the team’s high scorer for that day. Gaikwad and Paddikal also added 50 runs between them (scoring 21 and 29 respectively) while the likes of Sanju Samson and Nitish Rana got out in single digits.

While it was certainly a low-scoring inning in comparison to the first T20I (where the visitors put up 164 runs on the board), we can’t really fault them for their performance. Given the circumstances, they had to adapt quickly and find their rhythm.

In bowling, Kuldeep Yadav was the best bowler with 2-30 while Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, Sakariya, Rahul Chahar, and Varun Chakravarthy also got a wicket each. The chase came down to the wire but Karunaratne’s superb six in the 19th over changed the course of the game in Sri Lanka’s favour.

Needless to say, India were forced to field a weakened squad but the fact that they managed to put up such a close fight tells us that it’s just a matter of time before they start firing like other big guns.

India’s Likely XI

Shikhar Dhawan, Devdutt Padikkal, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sanju Samson, Nitish Rana, Chetan Sakariya, Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakravarthy, Bhuvaneshwar Kumar, Sandeep Warrier, Rahul Chahar

Venue & conditions

We are still in Colombo for this one at the R Premadasa Stadium. Wednesday saw an interrupted play and the conditions are likely to remain the same for Thursday’s encounter too.

While the pitch is primed for batting and bowling, it will all come down to how the players perform when they take on the field. It wouldn’t be surprising if we see another low-scoring match.

Sri Lanka vs India Head-to-Head

This will be their 22nd meeting in the 20-over format of cricket. India still lead Sri Lanka 14-6 after Wednesday’s loss with one match ending in no result. As you can see, India hold a tight lead on Karunaratne’s men in the head-to-head.

Sri Lanka v India Third T20I Head to Head Stats

Sri Lanka vs India Toss Prediction

Looking at the Sri Lanka vs India toss winner statistics, the coin toss is one department where Sri Lanka have outclassed Kohli’s men, although only marginally. Sri Lanka won the toss on Wednesday as well and now lead 12-9 here.

Historically, when the 2 sides are playing a T20I series, one side will win twice while the other will win once. This has happened in the last series in 2020, where India won 2 tosses. It also happened in 2018 and 2016 where Sri Lanka won the toss twice.

Let’s back India to win the toss here and shake things up a bit.

Sri Lanka v India Toss Stats - Third T20I

India 9 42.9%
Sri Lanka 12 57.1%

Sri Lanka vs India Winner Prediction

Recommended Bet: Back India to win @ 1.65 with Purewin

Since India are playing with the reserve players of their reserve squad, their chances of winning the third T20I may not be as high as they were at the start of the series.

That said, these players still have a great deal of T20 experience, thanks to their playing time in the Indian Premier League. In some ways, Wednesday’s defeat can also be attributed to the nerves of playing an international game under pressure with little time to practice.

But now that the men in blue have had some time to get acclimatised to the conditions, there is no reason why the boys can’t find their form and win the series. Moreover, this is also a terrific opportunity for them to make their case to be a part of the World Cup squad, set to begin in October.

Kuldeep Yadav was brilliant with the ball last night and expectations will be high from him to continue to deliver. As for Rana, he picked up a shoulder injury and may be unavailable for this fixture.

Batting wise, there is plenty of talent and experience in the likes of Dhawan, Padikkal, Samson, and others. We all know what they are capable of on their best days so clearly, they just can’t be chalked off just yet.

However, Sri Lanka are not to be underestimated. They have grown wonderfully in the series and can smell blood following their T20 win. Expect another good game of cricket.

Total Fours in the Match Over 23.5

Recommended Bet: Back over 23.5 fours total in the match @ 1.75 with Betway

This is the last significant T20 international for India (and Sri Lanka) before the IPL and the World Cup thereafter. Both sides will be looking to perform with the bat and impress their selectors.

Even though the first two 20-20 matches have seen less than 24 boundaries in total, that may very well change in the third match, especially considering the batting talent that India is fielding in its ranks.

Today’s Sri Lanka vs India Hot Bet

Recommended bet: Back Devdutt Padikkal to be India Top Batsman @ 4.70 with 10CRIC

Even though Dhawan is the ideal bet to make for India’s top batsman, Devdutt Padikkal also serves as an appealing choice. For one, he is available at far greater odds and secondly, he is a top-order batsman that gives him more than enough time to get some runs under his belt.

He wasn’t all that bad in this T20 international debut last night – his 29 off 23 allowed him to be the second-highest scorer for India. That is certainly a decent start and with time, he is only bound to get better.
