2020 Cincinnati Masters betting tips – second round

  • In the men’s bracket, the first-round went pretty much as expected with all the expected players marching on to the second round.
  • However, in the women’s half, things were far more intriguing, with Cori Gauff, Sloane Stephens, and Donna Vekic succumbing in the openers.
  • The fixture to lookout for is the one between Zverev and Andy Murray. The Brit, looking to reestablish himself on the tour after recovering from injuries, started his run in the Cincinnati Open with a 3-set slog against Frances Tiafoe. He now faces the German No. 1 Zverev, against whom he holds 1-0 lead in the head to head tally. However, Murray lacks the momentum, making this match a challenging one for the unseeded.
  • In the women’s half, it’s the tie between Victoria Azarenka and Caroline Garcia that will draw the crowds. The Belarusian, a former Grand Slam champion, faces Garcia, a player who is in a comparatively better form. While the Frenchwoman holds 3-0 lead over Azarenka, she lacks the experience, making this an interesting tie.

2020 Western & Southern Open: Men’s Draw Analysis

  • The top 8 seeds received a bye into the second round.
  • Novak Djokovic finds himself in the same half as the defending champion Daniil Medvedev, with the duo set for a possible semifinal clash.
  • The bracket of death is the bottom one, with Alexander Zverev and Dominic Thiem on course to meet in the quarterfinal.
  • From British No. 1 Andy Murray has also received a wildcard, and find himself in the same pool as Zverev and Thiem.

Novak Djokovic is the top seed in the Western and Southern Open 2020

In all fairness, Novak Djokovic – the reigning Australian Open champion has got himself a pretty easy path to the semifinal, at the very least. His first real threat may come in the form of David Goffin, as early as the quarterfinal.

However, we also can’t rule out Marin Cilic who, while unseeded, has scores of experience on his side to make life difficult for the established players.

The likes of Denis Shapovalov and Taylor Fritz can also cause some ripples.

Things look far more interesting in the bottom half, where the Greek prodigy Stefanos Tsitsipas may possibly meet the South African veteran Kevin Anderson in the second round.

6th seeded Italian Marco Berrettini is in the same bracket as Tsitsipas, and it will be interesting to see the dynamics here.

However, the bracket of death is undoubtedly the bottom one – where Thiem and Zverev lead the way as the top seeds.

Andy Murray, having received a wildcard, is on course to meet Zverev in the German’s opener.

Similarly, Milos Raonic (also in the same bracket) is also looking to make a dent after a few bleak spells on the tour.

With him, we also have the Bulgarian ace Grigor Dimitrov, who is likely to meet Thiem as early as the third round.

2020 Western & Southern Open: Women’s Draw Analysis

  • The top 8 seeds received a bye into the second round.
  • Karolina Pliskova leads the way as the top seed, with Sofia Kenin taking the 2nd spot.
  • Defending champion Madison Keys finds herself in the same bracket as Kenin, while Serena Williams possibly set to meet Johanna Konta in the quarterfinal.
  • Petra Kvitova, Aryna Sabalenka, and Naomi Osaka fill in the remaining top-seed slots to give us what is possibly a highly competitive playing field.

Each of the 4 brackets in the women’s half of the 2020 Cincinnati Masters is nothing short of jaw-dropping and competitive.

For instance, Osaka and Kvitova are set for a prospective showdown in the final 8, but not before they move past the likes of Venus Williams, Anett Kontaveit, and Danielle Collins.

Karolina Pliskova leads the field in the 2020 Cincinnati Masters

Similarly, Sabalenka and Pliskova will have to address the likes of Kim Clijsters, the teenage prodigy Amanda Anisimova, Elise Mertens, and others before they can think about their meeting in the quarters.

In the same way, Serena Williams will need to keep in mind the young guns like Cori Gauff and Marketa Voundrousova.

Finally, we have the prospective showdown between Keys and Kenin but before that can happen, they will need to move past the likes of Victoria Azarenka, Sloane Stephens, Donna Vekic, and Ons Jabeur.
