Bangladesh Team News

Bangladesh flexed their muscles at the second time of asking after that disappointing defeat to Scotland.

Anything over 150 is going to be tough to chase on these wickets and so it proved. In the end they restricted Oman to 127 and they’re still very much alive and en route to qualifying for the World Cup proper.

The foundation for the win was an excellent all-round performance from star man Shakib Al-Hasan who really is the class act here. He scored 42 off 29 with the bat and then took three wickets with the ball.

As far as all-round performances go in T20, that’s as good as it gets.

Bangladesh’s Likely XI

Naim, Das, Mahedi Hasan, Shakib, Nurul Hasan, Hossain, Mahmudullah, Rahim, Saifuddin, Ahmed, Rahman.

PNG Team News

Papua New Guinea’s race was run after they conceded 165 agains Scotland, which was probably about 20 more than they were ever likely to chase.

And things didn’t start well for them, losing early wickets.  But the middle-order dug deep and in the end they did pretty well to get to 148.

That included a really good knock in the circumstances from Norman Vanua, who hit 47 off 37.

Had they restricted Scotland to a few less and they could have won the game.

But two defeats alongside a really poor net run rate means they have no chance of qualifying now. They’ll need to wait for a future opportunity to show us what they can do.

Papua New Guinea’s Likely XI

Ura, Siaka, Vala, Amini, Bau, Atai, Vanua, Doriga, Soper, Pokana, Morea.

Venue & conditions

Anything above 140 looks like a good score in these conditions. There doesn’t seem to be necessarily a bias in terms of batting first or chasing, so it depends on what the team winning the toss feels more comfortable doing.

If it’s Bangladesh they may feel that batting first and then putting the spinners in play in the second innings is the way to go about things.

PNG will probably fancy chasing anyway after a good effort last time, even though it ended in defeat. Check out our Oman Cricket Academy betting guide for more on this venue!

Bangladesh vs Papua New Guinea Toss Prediction

Nothing to discuss regarding Bangladesh v Papua New Guinea toss winner stats because they’ve never faced each other, as per above.

But PNG have lost both their tosses up to now so we’ll side with Bangladesh here.

To say there’s a gulf in class between these two is putting it mildly. We’ve seen Bangladesh being upset already but then again, Scotland look a far better side than PNG do.

Scotland can boast a couple of county players and a few others with plenty of international experience, at least far more so than PNG’s players.

Bangladesh are after all a Test nation who have beaten good teams at the World Cup before in all formats. The best chance of an upset is for Bangladesh to bat first, post less than 130 and PNG hoping that someone somehow gets 50 or so.

But that looks too big an ask so we have to go with the hot favourites. Make sure to check out our Pure Win review for more on this top betting site.
