What are the Best BBL Odds right now?

Almost every website that has live cricket satta rates will have BBL betting odds too. Historically, 10CRIC has the best odds on the Big Bash on a couple of the teams.

10CRIC are making the winners of the last two editions, the Sydney Sixers, the stand-alone favourites at 4.35 to win a third Big Bash title in a row. They look as strong as ever and are very justified favourites.

The Perth Scorchers, runners-up in both the Group Stages and the losing finalists, come next at odds of 5.0. They can match the Sixers on three Big Bash wins.

Then it’s the Melbourne Stars, so often the best team on paper but one who loses the plot when it most matters, at 6.5.

The Sydney Thunder, much improved last year and who lost in the Knockout game to the Brisbane Heat, are the same price at 6.5.

The Heat come next at 7.5 and deserve some respect for the way they won a load of must-win games last year under the utmost pressure. But as ever, their squad doesn’t look strong enough to go all the way.

The Adelaide Strikers and the Hobart Hurricanes, who finished fifth and sixth respectively in the Group Stages last year, are less-fancied at 8.5.

At the bottom of the pile are the Melbourne Renegades. No surprise. No one will ever be able to take away their 2018-19 title, the most unlikely win in Big Bash history, but it’s been a story of failure ever since; they finished rock bottom in each of the past two seasons. They’re 11.0.

Other Big Bash betting options

There’s a lot more to betting on a Big Bash match than just predicting who’s going to win it. As is the case with all the best T20 franchise leagues, there are endless Big Bash League betting options beyond that, including each team’s top batsman or who will be man-of-the-match.

Also known as ‘side markets’, not only do they offer lots of choice but it’s also true that you can often find better value on them than you sometimes would on the match winner market.

Insightful research on these side markets can provide some excellent returns.

cricket bats stopping cricket ball to represent the top batsman market BBL betting

Top batsman

Ahead of every Big Bash match, you’ll be able to bet on who will be the top batsman for each side.

This is one of the more popular markets and one where knowledge of the players, the ground at which they’ll be playing and what position they’ll be batting at can certainly pay dividends.

There are some real gems of bets to be found out there on middle-order players at big odds who win more often than their price suggests. So those are certainly ones to look out for.

Top bowler

Just like with the top batsman market, you can bet on who will be the top bowler for both sides.

On hard, fast, bouncy Australian wickets, it tends to be the fast bowlers who often win this market. But if you’re good enough, world-class spinners like Rashid Khan of the Adelaide Strikers can have plenty of success, as well.

As ever, look at the stats. High strike rates tell you how often bowlers take a wicket per balls bowled. So that should be one of your starting points.

Man running with cricket bat in hand to represent the Most match sixes when betting on the BBL

Most match sixes

One of the characteristics of Big Bash cricket is plenty of big sixes as the power-hitters try to clear the rope as the best way of scoring runs quickly.

Great Big Bash exponents of six-hitting include Marcus Stoinis, Glenn Maxwell, D’Arcy Short, Aaron Finch and Chris Lynn.

But the last couple of years have seen Josh Philippe of the Sixers and Englishman Alex Hales of the Thunder smash as many sixes as the old-school ‘Bash-bashers’ just mentioned above.

But which team will hit the most sixes? Study the stats, look at which sides have six-hitters and which sides have bowlers who are rarely hit for six, before putting your money down.
A fun market to play, which will keep you engaged throughout.

Man of the match

An old favourite among us here at Bet India. It’s one of our favourite markets because of the HUGE payouts.

Players are almost never available at anything less than 7.0 here and some at odds as big as 25.0. As ever, do your research, work out who might have a really good match and watch your man in action trying to be the game-changer.

Because of the big returns, you only need to get three or four of these right a season to be in profit. And it’s also one of the real fun ones to play.

Yes, it is 100% legal to bet on the BBL – provided you do it online. You should also always bet at a licensed betting site such as 10CRIC, Betway or Bet365.

Defending champions Sydney Sixers at 4.35 and the Perth Scorchers (losing finalists) at 5.0 are the favourites ahead of the season.

It’s normal that you won’t know all the non-international Aussie players. Or what they do. Or which wickets are high-scoring grounds with short boundaries and good wickets. And which are tough wickets to score on. Or which sides are good in the chase and which are good at defending. Again, don’t worry because… we do!

We’ll give you the best BBL betting tips before it all starts and further expert betting tips once it’s underway and ahead of every game. Not to mention tell you which bookies you can secure the best odds at.

How to bet on the Big Bash League

Most betting sites organise their markets in the same way when it comes to the Big Bash. So taking 10CRIC as an example, you’ll first want to navigate to the cricket section, under Sports.

You’ll then be presented with all the upcoming cricket matches including all the international ones and of course, upcoming Big Bash games.

But if you just want to view Big Bash markets, click on ‘Australia’ under Cricket and then Twenty20 Big Bash, as opposed top Twenty20 Big Bash W. That’s the women’s version of the tournament.

Then either select a match you want to bet on or click on Outrights to bet on the winner market, top batsman or other long-term markets.

Where to bet on the BBL

Look, there are lots and lots of betting sites out there these days of which many allow Indian customers to open accounts with them.

But just like with anything else in life, some are better than others. We’ve spent endless hours trawling through them all, playing at them, testing their Customer Service Department and conducting other research to separate the wheat from the chaff.

We then write the most honest and transparent reviews telling you which we like the most and why. When choosing a BBL betting site, you should also keep the instant withdrawal betting sites in India that are available. This makes the process of withdrawing much smoother.

The Brisbane Heat were born to chase

Historically, they’ve been one of the weakest slides when it comes to bowling. Even when posting monster scores, they’ve been vulnerable when defending.

But they’re great in the chase. Often with skipper Chris Lynn leading by example, they can chase down big scores thanks to their big-hitters knowing the scoring areas so well at the Brisbane Cricket Ground. Their cause will be aided in the 2022-23 season by the recruitment of fast-scoring English import Ben Duckett.

Whether it’s making the most of the Powerplay Overs or going ballistic with the bat at the death, they can generally chase anything, especially at home.

If they’re outsiders chasing anything less than about 190, they generally rate a good bet.

The Sixers are ace with the ball

Year after year the Sixers generally boast the best bowling line-up. It includes Aussie pace bowlers Jackson Bird, Ben Dwarshuis and Sean Abbott and spin bowlers Steve O’Keefe and Lloyd Pope.

For the 2022-23 season they alo have Englishman Tom Curran and West Indies T20 World Cup winner Carlos Brathwaite in their ranks. Occasionally they can also count on the services of internationals Josh Hazlewood and Nathan Lyon, when they’re not playing for their country.

It means they’re the best side when it comes to defending. Even when posting just par scores or scores just below par, they’re never out of the game because of how good their bowling is.

The Melbourne Stars fail to shine in finals

Three BBL finals, three losses. Two would just about be understandable but three finals and three defeats in them suggests a malaise has set in. To make matters worse, they were favourites going into all three.

What’s odd is that the side from 2015-16 is quite different to the one in 2018-19 and 2019-20. So it’s not like it’s the same players making the same mistakes over the years. The worst of all was the meltdown batting second in the 2018-19 final against fierce rivals, the Renegades.

But now you know. If they make the final again, go against them!

Study the calendar, then study it again

As mentioned already, Australian players are only available to play for their Bash side when they’re not on international duty.

2022-23 is a bit different to the norm in this regard. It’s an Ashes year.

So on the one hand, all Australia’s Test players will be unavailable up until the 18th January playing for their country. Though it’s not impossible that the likes of Marnus Labuschagne (Brisbane Heat), Nathan Lyon and Josh Hazlewood (Sixers) or Pat Cummins (Thunder) play some Big Bash games after that.

On the other hand, there are no ODIs or T20Is after the Test matches this year. That means that the likes of Marcus Stoinis, Glenn Maxwell and Adam Zampa (Stars); Aaron Finch (Renegades) and Dan Christian (Sixers) won’t miss any Big Bash games at all this year.

There are also some overseas players who are around for some of the Bash but away for other parts of it. Work out which teams have their best players around for the longest.

BBL Live Betting

All the best betting sites we work with offer Big Bash live betting on all matches.

Meaning that you can carry on betting on the winner market and a few others right till the very end when the last wicket is taken, the winning runs are scored, or the 20 overs are up.

To find live betting markets on the BBL, head to the LiveBet or Inplay betting section of the betting site and you’ll find the match that way, once it’s underway.

Advantages of live betting on the Big Bash League

There are many advantages to betting live on the Big Bash League, instead of betting before the game starts. Here are some of the main ones.

  • You can still bet on pretty much everything
  • Chance to watch the match before placing bet
  • Knowledge of Australian grounds will help you win
  • Know which sides are good at defending and get better odds live
  • Use research to predict how teams might play once the game starts
  • Use the Big Bash TV commentary to gain knowledge before betting live
  • Know which BBL teams are good in the chase and bet live for bigger odds

Renegades vs Stars 2018-19 final

Which Melbourne went into Meltdown?

If you ever want an example of how the pressure does funny things to even the very best cricketers and cricket teams, then consider the 2018-18 Big Bash final.

It was contested by the two Melbourne teams who are big rivals. In the build up to the final, both teams ‘trash talked’ each other in media.

Batting first, the Renegades posted 145-7, which looked about 15 runs short of a par score. And even that was only thanks to some late big-hitting from all-rounders Tom Cooper (43) and Dan Christian (38).

The Stars started well in reply, with openers Ben Dunk scoring 57 and Marcus Stoinis 39. They were already two-thirds of the way towards reaching the target when they lost their first wicket. At this stage the Renegades were available at huge odds in live betting. Those who took the chance… were rewarded.

What happened next was one of the biggest collapses ever seen in T20 cricket with the next seven Stars batsmen- including the great Glenn Maxwell- all getting out for single figures.

Christian claimed two wickets to go with his runs to get man-of-the-match as the Stars fell 13 runs short, thanks to a massive meltdown from the Stars. They were anything but stars on the day.

Renegades vs Sixers 2018-19 semi-final

That the Renegades even made that 2018-19 final was down to two familiar factors already highlighted above: a remarkable turnaround for them and veteran all-rounder Daniel Christian.

In the semis they were chasing 181 against the ever-resilient Sydney Sixers.

They looked in real trouble after losing star batters Aaron Finch, Sam Harper and Cameron White. At the end of the 16th over they were 135/6 needing an unlikely 46 runs from 24 balls. If you’d backed the Sixers, you may have thought that was money in the bank.

But Christian had other ideas. A big six in the 18th over, another at the start of the 19th and one more to finish off the 19th and they were back in business. Bowler Kane Richardson eventually hit the winning runs with one ball to spare, thanks to a fine boundary.

The two examples show how the bowling side can perform miracles with smart bowling and sharp fielding to win against the odds. And how batting sides can get over the line in big chases thanks to fielding players who can hit sixes at will.

It also shows that no match is over till Dan Christian, who still plays in the Big Bash, is still in the game!

About the Big Bash League

The Big Bash has been going since the 2011-12 season and is Australian cricket’s biggest T20 tournament, generally starting just before Christmas and ending sometime in February.

It’s always been contested by the same eight teams, who haven’t changed bases or names over the years.

It uses a system similar to the Indian Premier League, making it easy for IPL online betting. The BBL has eight teams playing a round-robin Group Stage made up of a home and away match against each of the other seven teams.

The difference in structure comes at the end of the Group Stages. The Top 2 have the same two bites of the cherry at making the final as in the IPL, first contesting a Qualifier 1 among them, with the loser of that still hanging around.

But in the BBL the fifth-placed team also makes the Playoffs, contesting a one-off match against the fourth-placed team (the Eliminator). The winner of that gets to play the third-placed team in a one-off match once again (the Qualifier 2) and if you’re still standing, you then play the loser of that first match played among the Top 2 (from the Group Stages) in a game called the Challenger.

Then, of course, it’s the big final, with the venue for it changing every year.

Unlike the IPL, there isn’t a stand-alone window for the BBL. That means that all the players selected for the Australian team aren’t available to play in the Bash. Only those not selected by Australia can play, though occasionally certain players are allowed to turn out for their Big Bash side in between Australia commitments.

As per the 2020-21 season, each side is now allowed to field three overseas players rather than the previous two.

The Perth Scorchers are the most successful side in the Big Bash with three wins (2013-14, 2014-15 and 2016-17). The only other side with two wins are the Sydney Sixers, winning in the first-ever edition (2011-12) and the last one (2019-20).

The Melbourne Stars have now made three finals without ever winning.

Big Bash League Teams

The Big Bash has 8 teams competing.

The Perth Scorchers dominated the competition in the early years but have gone somewhat off the boil over the past couple of seasons, though they did hit back to finish as runner-up in 2020-21.

The Sydney Sixers generally boast an excellent bowling line-up, which has allowed them to win two editions, while the Melbourne Stars are generally very strong in their batting, though they haven’t won any of the three finals they’ve contested.

The Sydney Thunder and the Brisbane Heat have each won one edition but can blow hot and cold and have been among the weaker teams in the last few seasons.

The Hobart Hurricanes are generally very strong at home but not so good on the road and have two final appearances to their name. The Melbourne Renegades’ fortunes have varied massively over the years but they did win it a couple of years ago.

The Adelaide Strikers made the most of their one appearance in the final, beating the Hurricanes back in 2017-18 in a high-scoring match on their own turf.
