FC Goa predictions

First up, we are going to preview every single game of FC Goa in the ISL 2021-22. To help you make the most of football betting, we will astutely analyse every match and give our predictions and best betting tips for those games.

After a fourth-place finish in the last season, not much can be said about their form woes or troubles. They were highly impressive throughout the tournament, succumbing only in the semifinal in a closely-contested affair. In all fairness, that was a match that could have very well gone the other way.

For this season, the team hasn’t made a lot of changes. If anything, they have made a few strategic signings to further bolster their squad. Let’s take a look.

FC Goa Team Outlook

Continuity has been a huge deal for FC Goa and the fact that there are not a whole lot of fresh faces in the Gaurs’ roster only means it will be easy for them to get going.

The team will be managed by Juan Ferrando once again, who last season saw FC Goa to a fourth-place finish and the Durand Cup title in 2021.

In the international player pool, the management has retained the services of Edu Bedia, Alberto Noguera, Iván González, and Jorge Ortiz. Even though they lost their talismanic striker Igor Angulo to Mumbai City FC, the replacement signings of Airam Cabrera should help them fill the void. The club has also signed Dylan Fox from NorthEast United to solidify their defence.

As for the Indian roster, key performers like Brandon Fernandes, Alexander Jesuraj, Dheeraj Singh, and Saviour Gama will dawn FC Goa jerseys once again.

All in all, things are looking good for FC Goa. They don’t have to worry about rebuilding the team or adapting to new strategies under a new manager. All they need to do is continue what they have been doing and the rest should fall into place.

Our Prediction for the Season: Top four finish.

FC Goa Performance 2020-21

FC Goa had another consistent season in the Indian Super League last term, finishing at fourth place with 31 points from 20 matches played. They won seven games, lost three but were to draw on 10 different occasions. Over the course of the season, they scored an impressive 31 goals (20 of which came from Igor Angulo and Jorge Mendoza) but conceded 25 in the process.

Their biggest wins came over the relatively weaker sides of Jamshedpur FC, Kerala Blasters, Hyderabad FC, and Odisha FC. They also fought ATK Mohun Bagan and NorthEast United to well-earned draws.

After making it to the semifinal by the skin of their teeth, they played Mumbai City FC over a two-leg affair. In the first one, they drew 2-2 while in the second, the final-time result was 0-0. The match moved to penalties where Mumbai eclipsed Goa to reach the finals with 6-5.

FC Goa 2021-22 players

Position Players
Goalkeepers Naveen Kumar, Hrithik Tiwari, Dheeraj Singh Moirangthem
Defenders Leander D’Cunha, Saviour Gama, Sanson Pereira, Dylan Fox, Lalmangaihsanga (Papuia), Seriton Fernandes, Ivan Gonzalez, Aibanbha Dohling, Mohamed Ali
Midfielders Edu Bedia (c), Muhammed Nemil, Alberto Noguera, Princeton Rebello, Danstan Fernandes, Alexander Romario Jesuraj, Redeem Tlang, Nongdamba Naorem, Glan Martins, Brandon Fernandes, Makan Winkle Chote, Christy Davis, Flan Gomes
Forwards Devendra Murgaonkar, Jorge Ortiz Mendoza, Airam Cabrera

Captain: Edu Bedia

The team will be captained by the 32-year-old Spaniard Edu Bedia, who has been with FC Goa since the 2017 season. His 86 appearances for the club certainly makes him a valuable player who understands the team dynamics and expectations better than anyone on the roster. Bedia also enjoyed a good pairing with Ferrnado last season and was important in bringing the manager’s vision to life on the field. He is an important playmaker, to say the least.

Key Players

Alberto Noguera, Alexander Jesuraj, and Brandon Fernandes will have important roles to play in the midfield. Between the trio last season, there were 15 assists and will need to continue doing their part this season too. Upfront, they will need to link their fellow teammate from the previous season Jorge Mendoza and the newcomer Airam Cabrera.

The defence was a concern last season and the addition of Dylan Fox at the backline should make things easier.  By his side will be Ivan Gonzalez to bring in the much-needed international experience.

FC Goa 2021-22 analysis

Duran Cup title, AFC Champions League experience and not a whole lot of changes in the player roster – FC Goa have all they need to deliver a good season. They have played a fair bit of competitive – more than their fellow adversaries, giving Ferrando more than enough time to fine-tune his strategies further and work out the chinks in the armour. On paper, this is a side that is more than ready to take on the ISL 2021-22 season.

A tick to represent the strengths of FC Goa in the Indian Super League 2021-22.

Strengths

  • The side has retained its key players to ensure continuity
  • Ferrando has done well to form a Spanish core in the side with the likes of Bedia, Ortiz, and Noguera
  • The team has a beautiful legacy and history in the ISL. Football is in the DNA of this side and in the toughest of times, they can tap into their love for the game to deliver unexpected results
  • Their experience from the Durand Cup and AFC Champions League will also come in handy

An X to represent the weaknesses of FC Goa in the ISL 2021-22.

Weaknesses

  • The loss of big names like Igor Angulo from the side may lead to a psychological disadvantage
  • With Angulo gone, Airam Cabrera will need to bring in the goals
