Venue & conditions

We’re at Abu Dhabi for this one, which was of course one of the grounds used in the IPL. The very last match played there in the IPL saw Mumbai smash 235 in the first innings against Rajasthan.

But the wicket was particularly good on the day and Mumbai had no option but to go hell for leather. A more realistic first innings total would be close to the 160 mark. Teams preferred to chase here as the tournament progressed so that’s what the captain winning the toss is likely to do.

Ireland vs Netherlands Head-to-Head

Interestingly, the Netherlands have had the better of things on the head-to-head over years: they’re 7-4 up. That includes winning the last one, a match played in Dubai, back in 2019. And maybe that’s the point.

Ireland vs Netherlands Toss Prediction

Shall we look at some Ireland vs Netherlands toss winner stats? Let’s do it. As two of the better nations from among those who aren’t the top-level teams, these two play each other quite a lot.

They’ve faced each other 12 times and the coin toss results are very one-sided indeed. 10 of the 12 (83.33%) tosses have been won by Ireland, so it certainly makes sense to go with ‘the luck of the Irish’.

Time for our match prediction. A few years ago the Netherlands were arguably stronger but it’s Ireland who have improved over the past few years. Whereas Ireland actually have some very decent young players to go with the experienced heads like Paul Stirling and George Dockrell, Netherlands seem to still be reliant on the old-timers.

Ryan ten Doeschate and Roelof van der Merwe are still classy players but no one can keep on going forever. The former is 41. Proof of that is that Ireland are currently 12th with the Netherlands down in 17th. That’s actually a bigger gap than it seems.

All things considered, I’m going with Ireland.
