With Juventus not in action in the Champions League this week, Cristiano Ronaldo turned his attention to Serie A, where his two goals have kept Juventus in the Serie A race, at the same time as he carries on breaking goalscoring records.
Ronaldo double keeps Juventus in the hunt
Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice in the first half against Crotone before Weston McKennie added a third in the second half as Juventus won 3-0 last night.
It was a much-needed win for a team desperately trying to defend their title under increasing pressure from both Inter Milan and AC Milan.
The three points won here mean they’re now within eight points of Inter Milan and will feel they can still recover and pip Antonio Conte’s team to Serie A glory.
CR7 stats more impressive by the day
Ronaldo’s two goals, both headers, allowed him to add some more impressive stats to his already outstanding goalscoring record.
It was his 70th Serie A goal in just two and a half years at Juventus and Crotone became the 78th different team from European football’s Top 5 leagues he has scored against.
The second goal, his 18th of the season, allowed him to overtake Romelu Lukaku as Serie A’s top scorer for the season.
Big three months ahead for Juventus
These may be good times on a personal level for Ronaldo but Juventus have plenty of work left to do this season.
It won’t be easy overhauling either of the two Milans on the domestic front, while they’re already under pressure in the Champions League.
They lost the First Leg of their Last 16 match against Porto 2-1 in Portugal. Anything but a win in the Second Leg and they’re out.
Fellow Serie A side Atalanta are in action against Real Madrid tomorrow in the Champions League.
