Venue & conditions
We are in Abu Dhabi for this one where the pitch is primed for batting. The last couple of games, however, have seen low scores in the first inning although, that may be a factor of poor batting rather than the pitch.
Expect a good game of cricket where a score of 150+ is on the cards, given the batting prowess of the two teams. Check out our Sheikh Zayed Stadium betting guide for more on this venue!
Sri Lanka vs Ireland Toss Prediction
In their one and only encounter in T20 cricket – which took place in the 2009 World Cup – Sri Lanka won the toss, chose to bat, and eventually won the match by 9 runs.
This time around, let’s back Ireland to win the toss in our Sri Lanka vs Ireland coin toss predictions. They lost it in the game against the Netherlands so logic dictates they should get one win in their next match.
Sri Lanka are cruising high on confidence after defeating Namibia by 7 wickets. Restricting the African nation to just 96 all out, the Lankans chased the target with 100-3 and 39 balls to spare.
Maheesh Theekshana took 3 wickets and for his antics, he was named the man of the match. Lahiru Kumara and Wanindu Hasaranga got a couple each and on the whole, all their bowlers were fairly impressive and hardly conceded any runs.
With the bat, their openers fumbled a bit but were rescued by Avishka Fernando and Bhanuka Rajapaksa. Such complacency cannot be afforded when they take on Ireland.
Speaking of Ireland, they thumped the Netherlands by 7 wickets with 29 deliveries remaining after chasing down Holland’s 106 all out with 107-3. Mark Adair took 3 wickets while Curtis Campher got 4. Batting wise, Paul Stirling and Gareth Delaney were the top scorers.
Between Sri Lanka and Ireland, the former will start as the heavy favourites. Granted that their form has been a bit shaky in the 20-over cricket this year, they still have a squad that is superior, like for like, in all major aspects. That said, the Lions are known to stutter and Ireland do have a small chance to deliver the upset of the group.
Expect a good game of cricket.
