Trinbago Knight Riders Team News

Trinbago aren’t going to have the flawless season they had last year where they went the entire campaign unbeaten.

But they’re getting by and with two wins from two are very much in contention for at least a Playoff place and ready to pounce on an all-important Top 2 finish, if others slip up.

Last time out they beat the struggling St Lucia Kings.

They posted 158/7 and won the match quite comfortably, despite a superb 81 not out from 55 balls from the Kings’ Andre Fletcher.

What was notable was how Kieron Pollard promoted himself up the order to Number Four in an attempt to get on with things after a sluggish start.

Had it not been for his 41 off 29 to get his team to a decent total and it may well have been a very different story.

Another thing that was notable was how much they keep changing their batting line-up.

On this occasion, Sunil Narine opened the batting (a pedestrian 24 off 32) and Colin Munro (1 off 4) batted at five.

Being flexible with the batting order can be good but it can also lead to some confusion.

But hey, they’ve won the CPL four times, so we trust they know what they’re doing.

Trinbago Knight Riders’ Likely XI

Simmons, Narine, Webster, Munro, Pollard, Seifert, Ramdin, Udana, Hossein, Seales, Rampaul.

Guyana Amazon Warriors Team News

Guyana were alongside Trinbago, one of my two tips to win the tournament.

But with just one win from three games and now up against the best side in the tournament on paper, they’ll be under serious pressure if they lose this one.

Against St Lucia, there wasn’t too much wrong with their batting, after they posted 166/3.

That included Mohammad Hafeez hitting 70 off 59 balls in his new role as an opener and a superb 52 off 35 from Shimron Hetmyer, batting at three.

The game was ultimately won by Sherfane Rutherford’s 58 off 34 in that chase.

But another way of looking at it was that the game was ultimately lost by Naveen Ul-Haq’s poor performance with the ball.

He went for 43 runs, taking just one wicket, the second time in three games he’s gone for over 10 an over.

If they don’t drop him now, for Romario Shepherd for example, they may regret it.

Guyana Amazon Warriors’ Likely XI

Hafeez, Hemraj, Hetmyer, Pooran, King, Malik, Bramble, Smith, Shepherd, Tahir, Smith.

Venue & conditions

Warner Park carries on being an extremely hard ground to work out.

In previous years there was a huge bias towards the side batting second winning the match but that hasn’t been the case in 2021.

Just as an example, the last six games have seen the team batting first win three of them and the team batting second win three of them.

However, one thing we are beginning to understand is what an average first innings par score is: it’s around 160.

But whether that’s enough to win the game or not really depends, as we’ve just seen.

Trinbago Knight Riders v Guyana Amazon Warriors Head-to-Head

Given that these have been two of the best sides in the competition over the years and it’s a huge surprise that things have been relatively tight over the 22 games they’ve played against each other.

It’s currently 12 wins for Trinbago plays 10 for Guyana.

Worth remembering that Guyana won this game when it was played earlier on in the season, the first match of CPL 2021.

Trinbago Knight Riders v Guyana Amazon Warriors Toss Prediction

Things have been pretty tight when it comes to the toss as well as the match-winner.

There’s really not much in it but Guyana are just about the pick.

Recommended Bet: Back Trinbago Knight Riders to win @ 1.75 with Pure Win

A very, very hard match to call. The teams look pretty evenly matched. If Guyana were about 2.2 or higher we’d probably go with them but sadly, they’re not.

At 2.08, those aren’t big enough odds to justify siding with the outsider.

Given Trinbago’s better record this season and slightly better head-to-head record over the years, they’re the selection.

But keep stakes small because they’re not the most confident selection we’re going to make this year. By the way, why not check out our Pure Win review.

Trinbago Knight Riders v Guyana Amazon Warriors Hot Bet

Recommended Bet: Back Tim Seifert to be Trinbago Knight Riders Top Batsman @ 9.8 with 10 CRIC

Tim Seifert is having a good tournament so far. He’s scored 23, 15, 40 not out and 37. So no big score but he’s been pretty consistent so far, which of course is one of the things you want from a top batsman candidate.

That 40 not out was exactly the same score as Colin Munro got in the same match so even though he hasn’t won outright yet, he’s tied once.

He’s unlikely to bat any higher than four and it could well be number five but then again, plenty of players have top-scored from the middle-order of late.

Besides, at huge odds of 9.8, we can’t have everything in our favour.

It’s an example of taking a risk on a big price knowing that you only need a couple of these to come off a season to be in profit.

Trinbago Knight Riders v Guyana Amazon Warriors fun statistics

  • Shimron Hetmyer of Guyana is the only player in this year’s CPL to have hit two fifties so far.
  • In Ravi Rampaul (9 wickets) and Isuru Udana (8), Trinbago have the first and third highest wicket-takers in this year’s CPL.
  • Imran Tahir of Guyana has taken 5 wickets which is good, but is going at just 5.83 runs an over, which is superb.
  • Surprisingly for him as one of the fastest scorers in T20 cricket, Kieron Pollard Only has the 12th highest strike rate from among batsmen in this year’s CPL.
