Up next, our free cricket betting predictions for today’s IPL match! I’m pretty surprised that Delhi go into this as outsiders given what’s happened so far this season. I’ll explain why I think DC should be marginal favourites here, which is why I’m putting my money down on them.
You’re also about to find out which classy batsman for the CapitalsI think can get to 50.
Delhi suffered a rare defeat at the hands of KKR last time.
They just didn’t get enough runs with the bat and paid the price. Only Steve Smith and Rishabh Pant (both scored 39) got going and even those two were guilty of not capitalizing on starts.
With the ball they failed to take the chances that came their way, dropping catches and making fielding errors.
As it happens, it may not make that much of a difference because their excellent start should mean they make the Top 2 anyway, unless RCB win all their last three remaining matches.
But if they actually want to win the whole IPL for the first time, they’re going to have to cut down on those mistakes.
They have some injury problems to worry about. Both opener Prithvi Shaw and all-rounder Marcus Stoinis have injuries.
Of the two, that of Stoinis seems worse and they may not risk him here. Given they were missing out on an opener, they played Steve Smith instead of Stoinis as the fourth overseas player and asked him to open.
They’re weaker for that change because not only is Smith not a natural T20 batsman but he’s not an opener, either.
They’ll hope they get one, or both, back for the Playoffs
There have been some unusually low scores at Sharjah so far this campaign. The ball has often gripped in the surface, the pitch has been a bit two-paced and spinners have been able to put serious pressure on the opposition.
Still, the wicket should be good enough that teams manage at least 140-150 batting first. Both skippers would probably rather chase here than bat first.
Mumbai Indians v Delhi Capitals Head-to-Head
Mumbai are 16-13 ahead on the head-to-head record and that’s no surprise. After all, Mumbai are the most successful side in the IPL by some margin, so they have a winning record against just about everyone.
But 16-13 is actually quite close so the Indians haven’t had it all their own way.
Mumbai Indians v Delhi Capitals Toss Prediction
If Mumbai are ahead on match wins, Delhi are ahead on toss wins. But Pant has now lost the last three tosses, so luck hasn’t gone his way in this regard. Despite Delhi being ahead over the years, I’m going with Mumbai here.
I find it quite odd that Mumbai go into this match as favourites.
Delhi are much better off in the table in general and are 2/3 in terms of games played in the UAE while Mumbai are just 1/3.
Had it not been for Pollard last time out for Mumbai and it could have been 0/3 for the Indians.
Ok, I can see a few reasons why Mumbai are preferred. They did beat DC four times last year, two in the Group Stages, once in the Qualifier and then again, in the final. But those four wins are the very reason why they’re ahead in the head-to-head.
I do worry a bit about those two injuries in the Dehi camp but I think Shaw should be fit for this one and that could make all the difference.
Quite simply, I’ve been far more impressed by DC this year and that’s why they get the nod. This is particularly true of their bowling, where they have all the bases covered.

Shikhar Dhawan has been pretty consistent so far this season. In fact, he’s been more consistent and better than everyone else or else he wouldn’t be the top run scorer in the IPL this season.
He had a couple of quiet games of late, scoring just 8 and 24. But look at his record for the season as a whole: he has three fifties already and had a few knocks in the 40s that he really should have converted into bigger scores.
He scored a 69 against them last season in one of those four matches and you can’t keep a player as good as him quiet for long; he may well get to another half-century here.
Mumbai v Delhi fun facts
Let’s round things off with some fun facts ahead of the game.
Mumbai won four times against Delhi last year but DC fought back to win when they played earlier this season.
No Mumbai player got to 50 when they played in April this year; Rohit Sharma was best with 44.
Kieron Pollard has two man of the match awards so far this season from 11 games.
Mumbai have three players who have taken over 10 wickets this season: Trent Boult (11), Rahul Chahar (13) and Jasprit Bumrah (16).
