Delhi Capitals secured a good win over the Punjab Kings on Sunday evening.
It was a much-needed one after their disappointment against Rajasthan the match before and it was the manner of it which was just as pleasing as the actual win.
They recovered from a fast start by the Kings to restrict them to something manageable to chase.
And when it came to the chase, they were pretty ruthless. Of course, it helps no end when someone (Shikhar Dhawan) goes out and scores 92 off 49 but there were also good knocks from Prithvi Shaw (32 off 17) and Marcus Stoinis (27 off 13).
Steve Smith didn’t get many but they’re unlikely to change a winning team so he should keep his place meaning batsman Shimron Hetmyer and bowler Anrich Nortje will have to wait for their chance.
We may finally see Axar Patel play after recovering from Covid.
It’s not becoming so easy to predict what the wicket will do in Mumbai.
There were two low-scoring games in a row there where runs were hard to come by and then on Sunday it was the opposite. On a belter of a pitch, Punjab scored 195 but it could have been plenty more. In response, Delhi chased that with considerable ease.
So we’ll have to wait and see what sort of wicket we’ll get here but we note the chasing team has won three of the last four here.
DC vs MI Head-to-Head
If this had been at the start of last season, it would have been perfectly tied at 12-12. However, remarkably Mumbai beat Delhi four times last term. First in the two Group games, then in the Eliminator and finally, in the big final.
So it’s 16-12 Mumbai and they’ve certainly had the better of things of late.
Delhi are way ahead when it comes to winning the toss in games between these two. Skipper Pant has won two of the three tosses he’s been involved in this season so that’s a further reason to side with DC.

We can consider ourselves pretty unlucky not to have won on Chris Woakes on Sunday. He had taken one wicket but had conceded a few more runs than a couple of other players when he was brought on to bowl the final over, He needed just the one wicket for us to win with Punjab going hell for leather, but it didn’t come.
Still, he’s taken five wickets in three games, is in good rhythm and is available at slightly bigger odds (4.75) than last time, so he’s worth persisting with.
