Delhi Team News

Delhi Capitals secured a good win over the Punjab Kings on Sunday evening.

It was a much-needed one after their disappointment against Rajasthan the match before and it was the manner of it which was just as pleasing as the actual win.

They recovered from a fast start by the Kings to restrict them to something manageable to chase.

And when it came to the chase, they were pretty ruthless. Of course, it helps no end when someone (Shikhar Dhawan) goes out and scores 92 off 49 but there were also good knocks from Prithvi Shaw (32 off 17) and Marcus Stoinis (27 off 13).

Steve Smith didn’t get many but they’re unlikely to change a winning team so he should keep his place meaning batsman Shimron Hetmyer and bowler Anrich Nortje will have to wait for their chance.

We may finally see Axar Patel play after recovering from Covid.

Likely XI: Shaw, Dhawan, Smith, Pant, Stoinis, Yadav, Woakes, Patel, Ashwin, Rabada, Khan.

Mumbai Team News

If ever you wanted to see what a winning side looks like, take a glance at Mumbai’s victory over SRH on Saturday.

The Mumbai Indians were off form with the bat but thanks to some late big-hitting from Kieron Pollard at the death, got to a score they felt they could defend.

And defend it they did. Rahul Chahar was excellent again with his leg spin and then Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult finished off the job. They’re going to be tough to stop.

The only issue they have is with their fourth overseas player. Neither Marco Jensen nor Adam Milne have been great but Milne should get another chance.

Likely XI: De Kock, Sharma, Yadav, Kishan, Pollard, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, Milne, Chahar, Boult, Bumrah.

Venue & conditions

It’s not becoming so easy to predict what the wicket will do in Mumbai.

There were two low-scoring games in a row there where runs were hard to come by and then on Sunday it was the opposite. On a belter of a pitch, Punjab scored 195 but it could have been plenty more. In response, Delhi chased that with considerable ease.

So we’ll have to wait and see what sort of wicket we’ll get here but we note the chasing team has won three of the last four here.

DC vs MI Head-to-Head

If this had been at the start of last season, it would have been perfectly tied at 12-12. However, remarkably Mumbai beat Delhi four times last term. First in the two Group games, then in the Eliminator and finally, in the big final.

So it’s 16-12 Mumbai and they’ve certainly had the better of things of late.

Toss Winner

Delhi are way ahead when it comes to winning the toss in games between these two. Skipper Pant has won two of the three tosses he’s been involved in this season so that’s a further reason to side with DC.

Delhi Capitals vs Mumbai Indians Winner Prediction

Recommended Bet: Back Mumbai to win @ 2.15 with Casumo

Mumbai haven’t been at their best in any of their three games to date but the fact they won two of them tells its own story.

They’ll get better as the competition progresses and though DC look one of the better sides this year, we can’t ignore the fact that Mumbai beat them four times last year.

That’s a lot of baggage for DC to have to carry and Mumbai are unlikely to be as forgiving as the Punjab Kings were on Sunday.

DC Top Bowler: Chris Woakes

Recommended Bet: Chris Woakes to be Delhi CapitalsTop Bowler @ 4.75 with 10CRIC

We can consider ourselves pretty unlucky not to have won on Chris Woakes on Sunday. He had taken one wicket but had conceded a few more runs than a couple of other players when he was brought on to bowl the final over, He needed just the one wicket for us to win with Punjab going hell for leather, but it didn’t come.

Still, he’s taken five wickets in three games, is in good rhythm and is available at slightly bigger odds (4.75) than last time, so he’s worth persisting with.

Today’s DC vs MI Hot Bet

Recommended Bet: Rahul Chahar to be MI Top Bowler  @ 4.5 with 10CRIC

One man who did win last time out was Rahul Chahar.

He missed out on being man of the match to Kieron Pollard but his contribution was excellent: 3-19. It means he beat Trent Boult to Mumbai top bowler last time because he went for fewer runs.

Chahar has really enjoyed himself this season and has already taken seven wickets in three games. He’s liking it here in Chennai and should give us a good chance again.

Delhi vs Mumbai Fun Statistics

  • Shikhar Dhawan is the top runscorer so far in the 2021 IPL with 196 runs after scores of 85, 9 and 92.
  • Remarkably, Kieron Pollard has hit more IPL sixes (201) than fours (199).
  • Rohit Sharma has only ever scored one century in 203 IPL matches.
  • Marcus Stoinis will be playing his 50th IPL match here.
