Peshawar Zalmi Recent Form

Last year’s PSL finalists continue to have an up-and-down 2022 competition. The Zalmi have won 3/7 matches – but have not yet managed to string two wins together.

The Zalmi have won one game and lost one since the tournament moved to Lahore.

Last time out, they thrashed Karachi Kings by 55 runs. Remember the Kings are the worst team in this year’s competition.

In their first match in Lahore, they lost by 42 runs to Multan Sultans – the best team in the competition so far.

Today’s game could be a lot closer than either of those matches.

Team News

The Zalmi have already used 21 different players in this year’s PSL. The Peshawar vs Quetta odds could change according to the team they pick today.

None of their batsman have passed 50 more than once. The pick of them has probably been 40-year-old Shoaib Malik. Mohammad Haris looked dangerous on his first appearance against Karachi recently.

Big-hitting Haider Ali has averaged just 21 and been a disappointment. That puts extra pressure on England’s Liam Livingstone to deliver a big score.

Player to Watch: Shoaib Malik

Shoaib Malik is one of the oldest players in this year’s PSL – but he is also one of the most reliable.

The Pakistan veteran – who played his last ODI against India in 2019 – has been good with bat and ball.

He averages over 43 with the bat and has also been the Zalmi’s most economical bowler. He’s conceding at a rate of 6.7 runs per over so far.

Peshawar Zalmi’s Likely XI

Hazratullah Zazai, Mohammad Haris, Liam Livingstone, Shoaib Malik, Ben Cutting, Sherfane Rutherford, Haider Ali, Amad Butt, Wahab Riaz, Mohammad Umar, Salman Irshad

Quetta Gladiators Recent Form

Quetta were easily beaten by Lahore Qalandars in their last match. Jason Roy was out second ball, while fellow Englishman James Vince went one better – he was out for a golden duck!

However, the Gladiators won their first game in Lahore against Islamabad United. Set 200 to win, the batsmen fired and they reached their target with a couple of balls to spare.

Overall Quetta have now won 3/7 group matches. They have the same record as the Zalmi and need the 2 points on offer here just as much.

Team News

Quetta’s top order crumbled against Lahore in their last match, but Peshawar do not have as strong a bowling attack as the Qalandars.

I would expect Roy, Vince and Ahsan Ali – who has hit 3 50s from 7 innings – to all get another chance to impress.

With the ball, the Gladiators are still searching for top-class bowlers. Teenage fast bowler Naseem Shah is the most exciting prospect they have right now.

Player to Watch: Umar Akmal

Umar Akmal is 31 now. He has never quite fulfilled the talent he showed when he scored a century on his Test debut as a teenager.

The Pakistan international has come into the Quetta team for their last couple of matches and shown glimpses of what he can do.

Umar’s scored 25 and 23 so far. If he gets another start against the Zalmi, it will be time for him to show that he can make more than just cameo appearances.

Quetta Gladiators’s Likely XI

Jason Roy, Ahsan Ali, James Vince, Sarfaraz Ahmed, Iftikhar Ahmed, Umar Akmal, Hassan Khan, Sohail Tanvir, Noor Ahmad, Naseem Shah, Ghulam Mudassar

Venue & conditions

This is the 7th PSL 2022 game to be played in Lahore. The team batting first has won 4 of the first six matches here. The average first-innings score is 181.

The weather is expected to be dry for this night match.

Peshawar Zalmi vs Quetta Gladiators Head-to-Head

Since the PSL began in 2016, the overall Peshawar vs Islamabad head-to-head record is now: 9 wins for the Zalmi; 5 for the Gladiators. The Zalmi have won all 5 meetings since the start of 2020.

Peshawar Zalmi vs Quetta Gladiators Toss Prediction

The Peshawar vs Quetta toss winner statistics show a bias. The Gladiators have won 9 previous tosses. The Zalmi have won only 6. I am backing the Gladiators to extend their good record and win the toss in this match.

Recommended Bet: Back Peshawar Zalmi @ 1.93 with Pure Win

I don’t completely trust either of these two teams! That’s mainly because their bowling units are not economical enough. On a good Lahore pitch, batsman could have the upper hand in this match.

As the odds suggest, I believe the win probability Peshawar vs Quetta is close to 50:50. The way to separate them is perhaps to look at the head-to-head record.

The Zalmi have won all of their last 5 clashes with Quetta. The confidence they gain from that record could be the difference-maker in their latest meeting.

My betting prediction is for Zalmi to extend their good head-to-head record and grab the 2 points on offer.
