The finals get underway with a massive eliminator between the Strikers and the Hurricanes – two evenly matched teams throughout the season, and each with their own reasons to feel confident.

At one point in the season, the Strikers looked dead and buried – destined for a spot in the doldrums of the divisional standings. Four wins in a row at the back-end of the season propelled them to fourth – and there is a renewed vigour surrounding their side coming into this.

The Hurricanes were blown away by a Glenn Maxwell-shaped tornado in their last game before the Eliminator, and will hope the mauling at his hands won’t affect their preparation for the biggest game of their season to date.

I have been looking at the online cricket satar bazar and other facts and figures before play starts at 1.45 pm (IST) on Friday 21st January at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).

Adelaide Strikers vs Hobart Hurricanes Betting Odds

The favourites for this are the Adelaide Strikers at 1.72 – probably justified after the prolific end to their campaign.

Personally, I am backing the Hurricanes. Ben McDermott, Matthew Wade, and D’Arcy Short provide firepower that is unmatched in this competition – I think they will get the job done and they are my premium pick of today’s cricket predictions.

Adelaide Strikers Recent Form

Talk about picking your moments! After a dismal start to the season – winning just one of their opening eight BBL 11 matches – the Strikers struck a purple patch.

They come into this clash having won four on the bounce and will be brimming with confidence – they have conceded just 650 runs in those five games, at an average of 130 runs per innings.

Their recent form means the win probability for Adelaide Strikers vs Hobart Hurricanes is firmly with them.

Team News

Travis Head and Alex Carey are back in the squad after returning from their Ashes exploits, they will add some high-quality depth to their batting ranks.

Peter Siddle is the only player guaranteed a spot in the XI, though. He has been named captain and will be at the bat-flip.

Player to Watch: Travis Head

It will be fascinating to see how the star batter fares after such a successful Ashes series against England.

A Strikers stalwart, he smashed the club’s first ever Big Bash League century with 101 Not Out against the Sydney Sixers on New Year’s Eve 2015, etching his name into the record books forever.

Last year’s BBL was a truncating and disappointing one – averaging just 17.50 from four innings. He will want to put that right and answer his captaincy calling with a significant contribution here.

You could do worse than to back him to be top Strikers run scorer at 3.50 with Betway.

Strikers Likely XI

Matt Renshaw, Henry Hunt, Travis Head, Jonathan Wells, Thomas Kelly, Alex Carey, Henry Thornton, Peter Siddle, Harry Conway, Fawad Ahmed..

Hobart Hurricanes Recent Form

If it were not for the exploits of the irrepressible Glenn Maxwell, the Hurricanes would have been coming into this clash off the back of a three-game winning spin.

Skipper Matthew Wade will hope the manner of the defeat against the Stars will not damage the confidence of his bowling unit. It was the highest ever total conceded in a Big Bash League Twenty20 game. The worst part? They’re returning to the scene of the crime at the MCG!

The likes of D’Arcy Short, Tim David, and Josh Kann went at economy rates of 16.50, 17.00, and 20.00 from their respective bowling spells – will they hold their collective nerves?

Despite the horrific pasting last time out, I’m backing the Hurricanes to do the job as part of my Strikers vs Hurricanes predictions.

Team News

There is some hugely positive team news for the Hurricanes – Scott Boland, Riley Meredith, and Tom Rogers are all in line to return to the bowling attack. All three were rested for the game against the Stars and so are free of any mental scarring!

Sandeep Lamichhane has finished his BBL stint with the Hurricanes, and returns home to Nepal for national duties, as they prepare for the Twenty20 World Cup Global Qualifiers. Nathan Ellis and Joel Parris remain out injured.

Player to Watch: Scott Boland

The Ashes hero showed what he can do on an international stage with a dominant debut against England at the beginning of the series. His absence has been keenly felt by the Hurricanes throughout the BBL, but he will relish the big stage.

I like the look of Scott Boland at 4.33 as top Hurricanes bowler – you can back him at that price with Betway!

Hurricanes’ Likely XI

Ben McDermott, Matthew Wade, D’Arcy Short, Caleb Jewell, Tom Lammonby, Peter Handscomb, Tim David, Riley Meredith, Scott Boland, Tom Rogers, Will Parker, Josh Kann..

Venue & conditions

The Melbourne Cricket Ground was the venue for an absolute run-fest during a double header on Wednesday – no fewer than 779 runs were scored in total..

I can’t see it replicating those numbers, but I reckon it could be another batter-friendly track. The weather icould be overcast, however, with a slight chance of rain throughout the day.

Strikers vs Hurricanes Head-to-Head

The honours are even this season – each having won a game. However, look further back and the Strikers have a marginal advantage, winning 10 of the 17 clashes these two have contested.

This tends to be a high-scoring fixture – both team average above 160 in the first and second innings when they play each other.

Strikers vs Hurricanes Toss Prediction

The Strikers also maintain a narrow advantage at the toss – winning 10 of the 18 coin flips between the two,

The Strikers have won each of the bat-flips this season but I’m backing the Hurricanes to get on the board – you can back them at 1.89 with Pure Win!

You can find the Strikers vs Hurricanes toss winner statistics below:

TEAMS TOSS WIN %
Strikers 10 55.56%
Hurricanes 8 44.44%

Strikers vs Hurricanes Winner Prediction

Recommended Bet: Back the Hurricanes to win @ 2.06 with Pure Win

The Hurricanes are the marginal outsiders, but I don’t think the Indian sports betting sites are factoring in the return of Scott Boland and Tom Rogers to a side so comprehensively beaten by the Stars.

It’s a close call, but on the balance of it, I am going to side with the Hurricanes to pull it out of the bag. They have the firepower and returning players to unsettle a Strikers team that, on paper, doesn’t look as balanced as their hard-hitting opponents.

Today’s Strikers vs Hurricanes Hot Bet

Recommended Bet: Back Ben McDermott to be top Hurricanes batter @ 3.0 with Betway

This has been the Ben McDermott Big Bash League – he has hit 571 runs, which is 103 more than his nearest rival, at a strike rate of 153.49.

He became the first player to hit back-to-back centuries and has also hit three fifties in a stellar campaign with the blade.

I fancy him to top score for the Hurricanes at a decent price!
