The worst thing that can happen to a team in the IPL is to be so cut off from the other sides that you literally have no chance of qualifying for the Playoffs.
After beating the Royals on Monday, Sunrisers Hyderabad at least know that their race isn’t run just yet. They would admittedly need to win all their remaining matches and still hope other results went their way, though.
It’s highly unlikely but not actually impossible.
What’s also highly unlikely is that we see David Warner ever play for SRH again. He got 0 and 2 in his two matches after the resumption and then got duly dropped, which coincided with SRH finally winning a game.
Given the amount of money he’s on and how badly the captaincy went for him last season, there doesn’t seem to be a way back for him.
Even more so because Jason Roy really impressed against the Royals.
He scored 60 off 42 and his fast start was crucial in SRH getting over the line. Kane Williamson did the rest, with a typically composed unbeaten 50 making sure there would be no last ball drama once again.
In reality, SRH probably don’t believe the Playoffs are a possibility anymore, but they’ll certainly keep on trying.
Not only are Chennai Super Kings top but they’ll carry on being top even if they lose this game. They have a game in hand on Delhi but are ahead of them on net run rate anyway.
It couldn’t have been any closer when they beat KKR. The winning runs were scored off the very last ball of the match although the worst-case scenario for CSK would have been a tie and a Super Over because the scores were tied going into that last delivery.
Ruturaj Gaikwad, Faf du Plessis and Moeen Ali all did their bit with the bat in scoring 40, 43 and 32 all at a good pace.
But the man they really have to thank is Ravindra Jadeja.
In typical no-nonsense style, he smashed 22 off just 8 balls thanks to two fours and two sixes. He did admittedly get out but most of the hard work had been done by then.
Having also returned figures of 21-1 off four overs with the ball, you can see why that effort with the bat was enough to win him the man-of-the-match.
The in-form Dwayne Bravo was rested last match but should play here, especially after Sam Curran was so expensive.
It hasn’t been much fun for the batsmen at Sharjah. The last three first-innings scores read: 156, 125 and 127. That suggests that getting to 150 may well be enough to win the game.
One strategy in LiveBetting would be to wait for the side batting first to get off to a good start before then backing a low number of runs, such as under 155.5 runs.
It gets tougher to bat as the innings progresses.
Sunrisers Hyderabad v Chennai Super Kings Head-to-Head
It’s 11-4 to CSK over the years. No surprises there. CSK have been one of the most dominant teams in the IPL over the years while SRH have been good a couple of seasons, including when they won it, and not so good most of the time.
In 2018 CSK beat them four times over the course of a season but things have been a little more level since. Of the last five, CSK won three and lost two.
Sunrisers Hyderabad v Chennai Super Kings Toss Prediction
CSK are marginally ahead on coin toss wins over the years and MS Dhoni can generally be trusted at the coin flip. However, if you look back over the statistics from the previous years, the team that wins the first coin toss between these two almost always wins both. Hyderabad won the toss back in April so, I’m betting on SRH to win the toss against CSK.
Sunrisers Hyderabad v Chennai Super Kings Winner Prediction
CSK find new ways to win matches and that’s dangerous for everyone else in the IPL.
The fact that they seem to have a different hero in every match also makes it far more difficult for other teams to play against them. It was Jadeja last time, Dwayne Bravo the game before and Ruturaj Gaikwad the game before that.
They also seem just as comfortable batting first or chasing, which is another advantage.
Add the fact that SRH have just two wins all season and that CSK are miles ahead on the head-to-head and it’s increasingly hard to make a case for anything other than a CSK win.
So I won’t.

Jason Holder will be feeling extremely disappointed at only being on the stand-by list for the West Indies ahead of the T20 World Cup. It wasn’t so long ago that he was the captain of the team.
But he’s been playing well when given the chance; first for the Sydney Sixers in the BBL and now for SRH.
He’s not a bowler who takes three or four wickets a game but he’s generally good for one or two and they’re usually for not that many runs.
As explained in our top bowler betting guide, that can make all the difference because if bowlers are tied on wickets taken, it goes down to runs conceded. Mind you, he did take three wickets against Punjab.
So as a classy bowler who always bowls his four overs and averages over a wicket a game, he’ll give you a good run for your money. Especially when it’s at a really good price. He’s 4.75.
SRH v CSK fun facts
Let’s round things off with some fun facts ahead of the game.
Ruturaj Gaikwad and Faf du Plessis have 362 and 394 runs respectively this season, making them the fourth and fifth-highest run scorers in the IPL this season.
CSK’s Rayudu and Jadeja only have one fifty each this season but they were fast ones: Rayudu’s came off 20 balls, Jadeja’s off 25.
Ravindra Jadeja’s bowling has been vastly underrated this season: he’s taken seven wickets, is going at just 6.84 an over and has bowled a maiden.
