England Team News

Some of these England players have given the Selectors plenty to think about.

In normal circumstances, the likes of Matt Parkinson, Saqib Mahmood and Lewis Gregory wouldn’t even have been playing but credit to the trio that they’ve made the most of their unlikely chance.

The first two have been excellent with the ball, while Gregory has also shown that he can bat and keep his cool to contribute some important runs.

His well-constructed 40 off 47 was what gave England a decent total and without those runs, it may have been a completely different game.

Add the three wickets for just 44 runs including opener Imam Ul-Haq and you can see why he got the man-of-the-match award.

It sounds strange to say but they could do with experimenting even further, which pretty much means they could play some even lesser known players this time round.

They didn’t go down that route against Sri Lanka despite already having won the Series but the likes of Ben Duckett and Dan Lawrence definitely deserve a chance.

England’s Likely XI

Jacks, Salt, Crawley, Vince, Stokes, Lawrence, Duckett, Gregory, Parkinson, Ball, Mahmood.

Pakistan Team News

The England v Pakistan betting odds have the men in green as outsiders again and you can’t blame them after what happened at Lord’s.

And by that we mean that they let England off the hook with the ball and made a mess of the chase, which certainly wasn’t impossible.

The problem Pakistan have with the bat is that they’ve become heavily reliant on their Top 3 of Ul Haq, Zaman and Babar Azam to get good starts and generally one of them gets closer to 100.

But all three have been poor with the exception of one good knock from Zaman in the first game and the middle-order doesn’t look up to it in terms of bailing them out after a poor start.

The out-of-form Mohammad Rizwan looks vulnerable, as does Faheem Ashraf who’s so vital as the all-rounder in normal circumstances but is not having much joy with either bat or ball at the moment.

Sarfraz Ahmed can come in for Rizwan and they can play a specialist spinner in Usman Qadir or even Mohahmmad Nawaz.

At least Hasan Ali and Shaheed Shah Afridi were good with the ball; between them they also contributed 51 runs.

Not a bad effort from Numbers 9 and 10 given they were all out for 195.

Pakistan’s Likely XI

Imam Ul-Haq, Fakhar Zaman, Babar Azam, Sarfaraz Ahmed, Shakeel, Shadab Khan, Nawaz, Hasan Ali, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Mohammad Hasnain, Rauf.

Venue & conditions

England are at Edgbaston and that should give them confidence. Strange though it sounds, England’s secret to success at Edgbaston is not a wicket that favours them but huge crowd support from local fans who are far more vocal here than at any other ground.

England have won their last five here, which included a win at the 2019 World Cup in the Group Stages against Australia, the last ODI that was played here.

In that same tournament, Pakistan beat New Zealand, the 2019 finalists, at Edgbaston. So they’ll have good memories and Azam in particular will, man of the match that day.

It’s hard to know what a good score might be here. If there are clouds, batting first could be tricky.

England vs Pakistan Head-to-Head

Time to look at the England v Pakistan head-to-head record now. England are actually 55-32 up against Pakistan over the years in ODIs thanks to those back-to-back successes over the last week.

The way things are going, you should definitely bet on it becoming 56-32.

England vs Pakistan Third ODI Head to Head Stats

England vs Pakistan Toss Prediction

So what do the England v Pakistan toss winner statistics say? So far the two sides are tied with 1 toss win each. If you have been following our toss winner prediction from the start, you’ll know that I’m 2 for 2 so far!

I backed Pakistan to win the toss last time out and Azam was, as predicted, the lucky captain on the day. Not that it made much difference though.

But I’ll go with England again to win the toss in the third ODI.

England vs Pakistan Third ODI Toss Winner Statistics

England 41 45.56%
Pakistan 49 54.44%

England vs Pakistan Winner Prediction

Recommended Bet: Back England to win @ 2.4 with Betway in live betting

The England v Pakistan win probability says Pakistan have a 48.8% chance of winning based on real odds of 2.05.

Time for our betting prediction on the match winner market. And it’s time to switch sides.

That’s because Pakistan simply can’t be trusted. Their bowling will always give them a chance but you won’t win many games when your batting collapses time after time.

If we could identify one or two batsmen who might get to 50 we could hope the Pakistan bowlers could do the rest. But who’s even going to get to 50?

Their best hope might be to bowl first in tough batting conditions and hope that England make a few changes. But even then, that might not be enough.

This side of Stokes’ is stronger than it looks so we’ll revert to a strategy of trying to back England in live betting at 2.3 rather than the current 1.73 and hope they get off to a slow start.

They should win anyway.

By the way, here’s a good Betway review for you to read as a reminder of why they’re a top-class betting site.

England vs Pakistan Top Batsman Bet

Recommended Bet: Back Shadab Khan to be Pakistan top batsman @ 24.0 with 10CRIC

What do you do when Pakistan’s big name batsmen are all out of form?

You look for options elsewhere. The good thing about this betting market is that it opens the door to other capable players at far bigger odds who will have every chance if there’s another batting collapse.

Three men coming under that category are Safraz Ahmed, Shadab Khan and Hasan Ali.

Ahmed may not play and though Ali is an incredibly tempting price at 42.0. One of these days he may well top score at those odds from number nine but it’s a big ask. So Khan is our man at very decent odds of 24.0.

He’s done ok so far with scores of 30 and 21. 50 could well be enough to win it and he should bat at five or six.

Today’s England vs Pakistan Hot Bet

Recommended Bet: Back Ben Stokes to be England Top batsman @ 4.7 with 10 CRIC

Stokes had every chance to top score last time after we backed him. He had 60 to beat and made a good start before falling for 22, clean bowled by Ali.

He’s the best batsmen in the team by some distance and this could be the game he shows that. You don’t keep a man like Stokes quiet for too long.

England vs Pakistan fun statistics

Time to round things off with some cool stats. Here they are.

  • Phil Salt scored 60 last time in what was just his second-ever ODI appearance.
  • Hasan Ali’s five-wicket haul was the fourth of his ODI career from 56 games. He’s also scored two fifties.
  • Saud Shakeel top-scored last time for Pakistan in only his second game.
  • England’s Saqib Mahmood has an excellent return of 11 wickets from just 6 matches.
