Sunrisers Hyderabad Team news

SRH won another game at last. They posted what was probably just about a par score thanks to two sensible knocks from Jason Roy and Kane Williamson on a tough wicket.

Roy would have been playing much sooner. They persisted with David Warner for far too long and that’s just one of many reasons why they had such a poor campaign.

If they were ok with the bat, they were excellent with the ball. All of their five bowlers took exactly one wicket and only Rashid Khan (of all people) was expensive, going at 9.75 an over.

In the end they kept their nerve as RCB lost theirs and deserved the win for how disciplined they were in the field.

Best of all their bowlers was debutant Umran Malik. A 21 year old paceman, he bowled with real venom and raw speed. He’s certainly one for the future.

Jason Holder had another good game. He’s probably been their best player this season.

Mumbai Indians Team News

It’s been a strange season for Mumbai, especially when you remember they’re the most successful side in the IPL by some margin.

The important thing is that they’re still in it. Depending on what happens with KKR they’re either going to just need to win or win comfortably with net run rate in mind.

If this is to be their last match of the season, the lesson to be learned is that maybe they do need to shake things up a bit in terms of their squad.

Hardik Pandya’s inability to bowl has caused an issue with their balance and maybe they need a better spinner than Krunal Pandya in the team.

But let’s see. They may still go on and win it this year!

MI Likely XI

Sharma, Kishan, Yadav, Pandya, Tiwary, Pollard, Neesham, Coulter-Nile, Yadav, Bumrah, Boult.

Venue & conditions

The last two games were won by the chasing side. On both occasions, it was CSK who were on the receiving end. So chasing is the way to go here. Mumbai will look to chase even if it wasn;t the case because they may have to be thinking about that net run rate.

Sunrisers Hyderabad v Mumbai Indians Head-to-Head

Mumbai are 9-8 up on the head to head. That’s a decent effort for SRH given they’re up against the IPL’s most successful side. Up until recently, it was the Sunrisers who were ahead but Mumbai have now won four of the last five.

That includes a Super Over win two years ago and a victory this season where SRH failed to chase 150.

Sunrisers Hyderabad v Mumbai Indians Toss Prediction

Mumbai are 10-7 ahead on tosses so have had the better of it. This is why I’m betting on Mumbai Indians to win the toss against SRH in today’s IPL game.

SRH 7 41.18%

Recommended Bet: Back SRH to win @ 2.54 with Pure Win

SRH were much improved last game and even though a swallow doesn’t make a summer, there are reasons to believe they can ruin Mumbai’s season by inflicting a defeat on them.

It’s worth pointing out that just because Mumbai need to win (and SRH don’t because they’re out anyway) that doesn’t mean Mumbai ‘will’ win. They’re the ones under pressure and who may feel the heat.

More to the point, the head to head over the years is pretty even, Mumbai have been inconsistent this season and the odds on SRH are very generous.

That’s more than enough reasons to go with the outsiders.

RCB vs SRH Hot Bet

Recommended Bet: Back Ishan Kishan to be Top Match Batsman  @ 9.0 with Betway

Our strategy of going with a gun player who opens the batting to be the top batsman in the match paid off handsomely on Thursday after we went with KL Rahul at odds of 5.5. He scored a brilliant 98 to trump Faf du Plessis’ 76.

We’re going with the same game plan again here.  And of the four opening batsmen on show, the one we like is Ishan Kishan.

Not only is he fresh from a really good knock of 50 off 25 (albeit in easy circumstances as they were chasing a very low score) but he’s  a far bigger price than the others at 9.0.

Sunrisers Hyderabad v Mumbai Indians fun facts

Let’s round things off with some fun facts ahead of the game.

  • Kane Williamson is the only SRH batter to feature in the Top 20 of highest run scorers this season. He’s 19th on 266.
  • Rohit Sharma only has one 50 this season from 12 innings.
  • In the match between these two earlier this season, not a single player in the game got to 50.
