West Indies Team News

There isn’t much to say about the last game because there wasn’t much of a game. As a result of one match being removed from the Series, two washed out games and a defeat in the second, the Windies need to win this.

And that’s just to level the Series. But as frustrated as they will have been with two washed out matches, they’ll also be frustrated about not being much closer to knowing who their best XI is when they play their opening match of the World Cup.

For example, they could be forgiven for thinking they may have made a mistake in bringing back veteran Chris Gayle. He may have scored a fifty against Australia and he certainly made the most of it when it came to reminding everyone who he is and what he’s achieved.

But he’s going to need to do better if he wants to be on that plane. He has one half-century in his last 15 T20Is. He hasn’t been that much better in domestic T20 with an average of 22.72 acros his last 25 knocks.

He could open here if Evin Lewis and Lendl Simmons are confirmed as being injured. Shimron Hetmeyer could be promoted to number three.

West Indies Likely XI

Gayle, Fletcher, Hetmyer, Pooran, Pollard, Russell, Holder, Dwayne Bravo, Walsh, Hosein, Thomas.

Pakistan Team News

Pakistan have probably decided by now that Sharjeel Khan and Mohammad Rizwan are the best suited men to open, even though that means skipper Babar Azam bats at three.

The counter argument to doing things that way is that Azam is the best of the lot and they’d like him to face as many balls as possible.  However, he’s the most natural number three they have and he could be walking to the crease in the first over anyway, so maybe it’s not that bad after all.

To my surprise, they picked Usman Qadir in the last game after a couple of poor performances so they obviously want to give him one last chance.  What’s also interesting is how they’re happy to bat the big-hitting Hasan Ali ahead of a couple of proper batsmen, including Sohaib Maqsood. You can see the reasoning.

A bit like with Sunil Narine for the Windies (he’s not playing in this Series) and KKR in the IPL, he’s not going to die wondering. He might get out first ball or he might score 20 off 7, which could make a huge difference. Azam Khan may finally get a game after being hit on the head in practice.

Pakistan’s Likely XI

Rizwan, Khan, Babar Azam, Zaman, Hafeez, Ali, Maqsood, Shadab Khan, Qadir, Rauf, Afridi.

Venue & conditions

Good news at last!  The weather forecast is much better this time and we’re far more likely to have a completed match. Yes, there’s a little rain around but this being T20I, not enough to stop us getting the full 20 overs in.

As we’ve said before, getting to 160 could easily be a winning score. But the smart move may actually be to bowl first and make use of swinging conditions. As explained in our ultimate guide to T20 betting, it’s an advantage to bat second in rain-affected games so chasing is probably the way both skippers will go if they win the toss.

West Indies vs Pakistan Head-to-Head

Time to look at the West Indies v Pakistan head-to-head. The West Indies’ record against Pakistan is shocking in this format.  It’s 12-3 in favour of Pakistan over the years with two ‘no results’ now after games one and three were washed out. So plenty of catching up for the Windies to do.

West Indies vs Pakistan Fourth T20I Head to Head Stats

West Indies vs Pakistan Toss Prediction

Let’s go through the West Indies v Pakistan toss winner statistics. It’s now 9-8 when it comes to the toss in this fixture. I was right about Pollard winning the toss last time (he did) and I’ll stick with the big Mumbai Indians batter again. Let’s just hope we get an actual game this time.

West Indies vs Pakistan Fourth T20I Toss Winner Statistics 2021

TEAMS TOSS WIN %
West Indies 9 50%
Pakistan 8 50%

West Indies vs Pakistan Winner Prediction

Recommended Bet: Back Pakistan to win @ 2.14 with Pure Win

Time to predict the match winner, which is the same thing as giving you our best betting prediction on the main match market.

I really don’t see any reason why I should change my mind about backing Pakistan here. It’s at the same ground as the last match and we certainly didn’t see enough from those eight deliveries that would make me change my mind.

Apart from anything else, the West Indies v Pakistan implied probability on the men in green is 46.7% this time rather than the 47.6% they were last time.

In other words, we’re getting slightly bigger odds than ahead of the last game. Even better for us.

As has been the norm recently, the best odds are with Pure Win. Here’s our Pure Win review where you can find out anything and everything you need to know about them including what welcome bonuses you can get.

Today’s West Indies vs Pakistan Hot Bet

Recommended Bet: Back Nicholas Pooran to be West Indies Top Batsman @ 5.0 with Betway

Nicolas Pooran is just about the only Windies batsman to have shown any sort of form over the last five games or so. He almost pulled it off single-handedly in the second game, scoring 62 not out when no-one else got going.

Against Australia in the 2nd ODI a week and a half ago, he hit 59 not out. Yes, different format but good form is good form. With the likes of Gayle, Fletcher and even Pollard in a bit of a rut, Pooran could be the man to beat. Especially if they try to make best use of his form and bat him at number three.

West Indies vs Pakistan fun statistics

  • Last game Mohammad Rizwan became the highest runscorer in a calendar year in T20Is, ever. He’s hit 752 runs at an average of 94 and a strike rate of 140. Curiously, the two men just below him on runs scored also had a strike rate of 140 when they scored 748 and 641 runs respectively: Paul Stirling and Virat Kohli.
  • Chris Gayle’s average in T20Is against Pakistan (7.0) is his worst against any country in this format. That was across six matches.
  • Kieron Pollard has never scored a fifty against Pakistan in 10 attempts.
  •  Mohammad Hafeez has an excellent 14 fifties from 112 T20Is but no century.
