Arsenal vs. Chelsea Betting Tips & Predictions

The London Derby has always lived up to the expectations and this time around, things promise to be far more precarious. The Gunners are currently ranked in the bottom half of the table and face a Herculean task to get back to their winning ways, let alone reach the top. Even though Chelsea may be slightly out of form, they will pose some difficulties for the hosts. This match should end in a hard-fought victory for Chelsea or a draw, with both the teams set to score at least one goal each.

Arsenal League Form: D-L-W-L-D-D

Things haven’t looked particularly good for Arsenal this season. Despite a decent start to the league, they have quickly deteriorated in form and possibly, in morale. To exacerbate matters, they now have a former Arsenal man – Mikel Arteta, managing the team who was appointed just last week.

After taking over the realms from Freddie Ljunberg, Arteta has since then played just one match – the Boxing Day fixture against Bournemouth. While it wasn’t the most ideal start for his managerial career at his former club, the 1-1 result is still something that he’d be pleased with.

But more than that, he will be seeking to solve the puzzling questions in attack and defence. Having conceded 28 goals already this season, the Gunners clearly haven’t been among the most defensively disciplined side. Their last two matches have ended in a draw against Everton and Bournemouth. Prior to that, they were handed a rather embarrassing defeat at home by Manchester City with 3-0.

However, this match set to be a homecoming of sorts for Arteta, the stakes will be high here. As a Gunner man, he will be eager to finally give his fans their first major home victory of the season.

Key Playmakers:

Amid the speculations that this may be among Granit Xhaka’s last matches as an Arsenal player, it will be interesting to see how he performs against the Blues. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is in a terrific goal-scoring form and he will be expected to take advantage of the occasional shoddy defending by Chelsea. Mesut Ozil is likely to start again with Alexandre Lacazette leading the charge at the front.

Chelsea League Form: L-W-L-L-W-L

Following a rather splendid start by Frank Lampard’s Chelsea this season, things for the Blues, of late, have taken a toss. Even though they are sitting at the fourth place with 32 points, things could have been way better for them. Chelsea have lost seven matches so far in the league – five of which came in the last month alone.

This dramatic turnaround in form started with a 2-1 defeat to Manchester City in late November. Following that, they lost to West Ham United 1-0 and subsequently, were handed defeats by the likes of Everton, Bournemouth, and most recently, Southampton on Boxing Day. Interestingly, the last three losses for the Blues came at home in Stamford Bridge.

But at the same time, things haven’t been all that bleak for Frank Lampard’s men – they will be pleased with their 2-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur who, admittedly, are facing problems of their own. That was among Jose Mourinho’s first match in charge of the Spurs and consequently, that win can also be attributed to just a shaky performance by the lads in white.

Nonetheless, Chelsea have clearly got a highly capable squad that’s just going through a rough patch. It shouldn’t be long before they get back to their winning ways and this match against Arsenal would be the perfect opportunity. They have won 10 matches so far in the league – just two short of the league leaders like Leicester City and Manchester City.

Key Playmakers:

We can expect Lampard to make some changes to squad that lost to Southampton 2-0 earlier this week. Willian and Tammy Abraham are expected to retain their place in the squad. In the midfield, N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic will be doing their bit to keep the Arsenal attack at bay.

Where to Bet on Arsenal vs. Chelsea:

This being a major Premier League counter, will be covered all the leading bookmakers. As for our predictions, expect both teams to score a goal. Pressure and emotions will be high for Arteta, who is set to make his managerial home debut. With a high-quality squad available at his disposal, anything can happen.
