|Back Chelsea to score two or more goals||1.65||Betway|
Why is this a good bet?
Chelsea have one of the best attacks in the league now with their trio of new signings adding real quality to the squad. They’ve scored at least twice in five of their last six matches against Brighton and with the hosts having a couple of new faces in their backline, including Ben White, they may take a while to settle.
If they get going, they could really put the Seagulls defence under severe pressure and either way, we should see at least two goals for the visitors.
|Back Timo Werner to be first goalscorer||4.0||Betway|
Why is this a good bet?
It’s a big ask to score the opening goal of the game in a Premier League fixture on debut then again, Timo Werner is no ordinary player. This is a man who scored 35 goals in 49 matches in all competitions last season and is fresh from scoring a goal for his country against Spain last week in the Nations League.
He’ll surely want to make his mark as quickly as possible to justify his big transfer fee and a game against a weakish Brighton defence could provide him with a good opportunity to do just that.
There are lots of factors to consider when placing good bets such as team news, energy levels and simply how well a team is playing. But stats- both long term ones and those relating to the last couple of times they’ve played each other- are also valuable tools. Here are some of the key ones.
- Brighton have drawn all of their last five Premier League games played on a Monday.
- The Seagulls have the worst Premier League record of anyone in 2020: just three wins from 18 games.
- Chelsea have won twice and drawn once in their last three trips to Brighton in the league.
- The Blues have scored at least two goals in five of their last six meetings with Brighton.
- Chelsea scored in 15 of their last 16 games last season.
- Timo Werner scored 28 league goals for Red Bull Leipzig last season in the Bundesliga.
Chelsea’s league form W-L-W-L-W
They were already pretty good last season but with a handful of new signings, they might well be even better this time round.
Thiago Silva might be just the sort of experienced defensive rock they’ve been crying out for, while Ben Chilwell will give them an excellent option on the left, once he’s fit to play.
Mason Mount did a good last year of being their goalscoring midfielder but the arrival of Kai Havertz will at worst give Frank Lampard plenty of options, at best really give the side another dimension in terms of possibly chipping in with as many as 10 or 12 goals a season and just giving them more bodies in forward areas.
As for Hakim Ziyech, he can play on either wing so he and Christain Pulisic will be key men for Lampard in those areas.
Best of all there’s Timo Werner, the German forward who scored a load of goals in a decent RB Leipzig team but who can surely score many more with so many talented players providing him service. The problem Lampard may have is deciding who to pick, always a nice problem to have.
Brighton’s league form W-D-D-L-L
This could be a real season of struggle for the Seagulls, who were somewhat fortunate to stay up last season and haven’t done a huge amount to rectify their problems, particularly in attack.
But they did make two signings who can certainly help their cause in other areas. Defender Ben White was recruited from Leeds and should provide some stability after a fine season last time out, while veteran Adam Lallana is just what they needed, a skilful playmaker who makes things happen and an important man at set-pieces.
But that might not be enough. Last season they really struggled to score goals and it’s hard to see where they’re going to come from this time round. Their policy for the whole season may just be to keep games as tight as possible and bank on drawing a fair few games and nicking a few by the single goal.
