Temperatures are about to get high as the Scorchers and the Heat take each other on in the battle of the thermometer – but which side will prove too hot for the other?

The Heat lost their opening game of the season in disappointing fashion and will be hoping to bounce back – whereas the Scorchers will be eyeing a blistering start to their campaign to follow up on their promising season last year.

Check out my cricket betting ahead of all the action, which gets underway at 4:05 pm (IST) on Wednesday 8th December at the Optus Stadium in Perth.

Perth Scorchers vs Brisbane Heat Betting Odds

The Scorchers finished runners up last year, missing out on the trophy to the Sixers in a run-fest of a final! To go one step further, they will need to develop a ruthless streak – and there is no time like the present!

The Heat were disappointing in their opening salvo, losing by seven wickets to the Thunder, having never really got going in setting any kind of target.

Home advantage could play the biggest part here, which is why in my free cricket betting tips, I’m going with a Scorchers victory.

Scorchers Recent Form

It’s their first game of the season, so nothing to shout about in terms of recent form – but if they can build on last year’s campaign, franchise fans have a lot to get excited about.

The Scorchers finished 2nd in the standings last year, boasting the second-highest net run rate – playing an exciting brand of dynamic cricket.

However, there are many squad changes for skipper Adam Voges to navigate – can he lead his team past a drastic shift in playing personnel from the previous season?

Scorchers Team News

The Scorchers signed Tymal Mills in a late move to bolster their bowling options, but it’s unlikely the pacey Englishman will be available for selection.

Jason Roy and Liam Livingstone are not returning to the Scorchers this season, while a host of Australian stars are on international duty, including wily seamer Jhye Richardson.

Player to Watch: Kurtis Patterson

The lesser-spotted Patterson has been flitting and threatening to launch into BBL form – his two test caps in 2019 included a maiden century and he keeps getting starts in the shorter format.

Despite his relatively young age, it could be a make-or-break season for the batter – injuries and absences mean he will have to step up in the opener here, and I’m backing him to shine!

Scorchers’ Likely XI

Cameron Bancroft (wk), Colin Munro, Laurie Evans, Ashton Turner, Kurtis Patterson, Aaron Hardie, Matthew Kelly, Ashton Agar, Andrew Tye, Jason Behrendorff, Peter Hatzoglou.

Heat Recent Form

The Heat were put into bat in their defeat to the Thunder, but that’s about the only excuse you can make for their poor performance with the bat and doesn’t influence my Perth Scorchers vs Brisbane Heat betting predictions.

They stuttered to 140-8 from 20 overs – after 14 overs they were 99-2, but a batting collapse curtailed any late order hitting, with only Ben Duckett (46), Sam Heazlett (42), and Xavier  Bartlett (26 no) making double figures.

They will have to improve markedly to walk away with a result.

Heat Team News

There are no new injury concerns after the first game – despite the ordinary performance, it’s likely they will remain unchanged.

Jimmy Peirson showed no after-effects of a hamstring injury in his return match against the Thunder.

Player to Watch: Xavier Bartlett

An exciting young pacer, Bartlett was head and shoulders above his fellow Heat fast bowlers, picking up figures of 1-20 from 3.1 overs.

He also hit an enterprising 26 runs at the back-end of the innings – smashing three fours and one six in just 18 balls.

He could be an interesting player to keep an eye on throughout the campaign – though his form does not alter the Perth Scorchers vs Brisbane Heat win probability.

Heats’ Likely XI

Chris Lynn, Max Bryant, Ben Duckett, Sam Heazlett, Jack Wildermuth, Jimmy Peirson, James Bazley, Xavier Bartlett, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, and Matthew Kuhnemann.

Venue & conditions

There is some cloud about on Wednesday in Perth, while wind speeds could spin up to 20 kilometers per hour. It may offer challenges for both the fielding and the batting side.

The Optus stadium tends to favour the batting side, so it will be interesting to see what the toss-winner opts to do!

Scorchers vs Heat Head-to-Head

The Scorchers edge the head-to-head contest against the Heat by nine games to seven. The Scorchers appear to favour batting first – winning six of their nine victories after batting first.

Scorchers vs Heat Toss Prediction

There is no separating the two teams here – the Scorchers and the Heat are neck and neck when it comes to calling coin-flips correctly, winning eight calls each.

I can see the Heat edging ahead here – they’ve had one game already so have some practice in analysing the coin trajectory.

Scorchers vs Heat Winner Prediction

Recommended Bet: Back the Scorchers to win @ 1.56 with Pure Win

The Heat were bitterly disappointing in their opening defeat to the Thunder, while the Scorchers came into the new campaign off the back of an exciting season which saw them finish runner-up!

I don’t see the visitors recovering their loss of momentum from their opening game defeat and despite the absentees, I can see the Scorchers cooking the Heat. It will be a tight game, though!

Today’s Scorchers vs Heat Hot Bet

Recommended Bet: Back Ashton Agar to be Scorcher’s top bowler @ 7.44 with 10CRIC

Despite his relatively tender 28 years, it feels as though Agar has been on the BBL circuit for years now! A clever spin bowler with an eye for variation, the Australian has 60 wickets to his name since first playing in the tournament with an average of just over 23 per wicket.

He is also a useful middle-order batsman, but I’m backing him to take advantage of a vulnerable Heat batting line-up!
