Portuguese Football is Back with 2 Great Bets!

The Liga Nos in Portugal is back this week!

Ok, so here’s something completely different: The Portuguese Superliga!

We haven’t covered much on this in the past, but we have been looking into a lot of Portuguese Superliga betting stats during the lockdown.

It’s all football betting at the end of the day – and that’s something we know inside-out.

This midweek Benfica, Porto and Sporting Lisbon are in action as the league resumes at last. But what did the table look like before the break? Why is the last day of the season likely to be a cracker? And who’s the smart money on this midweek?

Benfica to win with both team scoring3.3Betway

It’s been a while…

It certainly has.

It will be just a couple of days short of three months since the last time Portuguese football was underway.

Matches will resume on Wednesday, June 3 as the Portuguese Superliga joins the likes of the Bundesliga and the Danish Superligaen as a league resuming its season after having to be suspended because of the Coronavirus.

Who’s going to win it?

Take your pick from Porto, currently top on 60 points or Benfica, second on 59.

One of the reasons why we were all so keen for the Superliga to resume is that this promises to be a dramatic battle to the end between two evenly-matched sides.

Benfica were in complete control until they went on a really poor run before the break that saw them lose away at Porto (3-2) and at home to Braga (1-0) twice in the space of three weeks before adding insult to injury and also drawing back-to-back matches 1-1 just before the league was suspended.

That coincided with Porto’s strong run that saw them win four of their last five matches before the break.

Take on Porto, Benfica can concede and still win

The plan from now till the end of the season is to pretty much have matches on every day, meaning teams will be playing about every five days between now and the end of the season in late July.

Porto v Famalalicao odds

Porto are hot favourites on Wednesday night to beat Famalalicao, available at around the 1.44 mark with 10CRIC, but that’s not necessarily a price you want to be jumping on. Famalicao are creditable seventh in the league and have made their home ground something of a fortress.

They’re fresh from beating Sporting Lisbon 3-1 at home in the league and holding Benfica to a 1-1 draw in the Cup so they’ll feel they can get something out of this match, as well.

Take the 2.65 on Famalicao/Draw on the Double Chance market with 10CRIC, meaning that if the hosts avoid defeat, you’re in clover.

Benfica v Tondela odds

Benfica should get over the line when they host Tondela on Thursday but they may not have things all their own way.

Their defence has been a problem of late and they’ve conceded in 10 of their last 11 matches in all competitions. You can get sports betting odds 3.3 on Benfica winning with both team scorings on Betway and that certainly looks the way to go.

Vitoria Guimaraes v Sporting Lisbon odds

Elsewhere, things are pretty tight in the betting in Vitoria Guimaraes v Sporting Lisbon.

Most of the bookmakers are giving the hosts slight favouritism but there’s not much in it and if it’s too close to call, it may just be the draw at 3.25 with 10CRIC that provides the best option.

Put July 26 in the diary

The league ends on July 26 and as is tradition, everyone will be playing at the same time.

It’s a decent bet that Benfica and Porto will still be playing for the title on the last day of the season and it could be a day of real drama.

Benfica will be at home to city rivals Sporting Lisbon and they’ll know Sporting won’t be there to watch them win yet another league title.

But if Benfica end the season with a tough game, then so do Porto. They may need to win away at Braga on the final day to be champions and that’s easier said than done against a side who is in third right now and show little respect for other bigger teams’ reputations.
