PBKS vs CSK Betting Odds

For my cricket betting tips on this game, I’m going with CSK to win it.

There are plenty of good reasons why they look to have the upper hand, including that they’re picking the right players, look better orgnanised and have two wins from their last three, which is more than you can say about Punjab.

But there are plenty of other reasons.

I’ll also have my usual toss winner pick and the PBKS vs CSK betting odds for my Hot Bet: a third tip at bigger odds than usual.

I’m going for the IPL’s top wicket-taker in history to be CSK’s top bowler on the day.

Come on, you must have worked out who it is!

PBKS vs CSK Betting Winner Prediction

Recommended Bet: Back CSK to win @ 1.96 with Pure Win

CSK are ‘outsiders’ at 1.96 in a close betting market but we don’t think they should be.

Yes, Punjab are one win better off than CSK, but so what?

CSK started badly as we all know and that last win can’t have been any tighter given it was off the last ball of but they’ve certainly improved over the past two weeks after working out who their best XI is, which by the way, is the one they played in the last match.

The problem they have is that their main men with the bat like Gaikwad, Uthappa and Rayudu aren’t in great form but then again, that’s often been the CSK way that several batsmen chip in rather than one player getting all the runs.

Punjab on the other hand look lost in general, seem to be picking the wrong players and don’t look like winning a game with either bat, or ball.

Add to that CSK’s good record against Punjab and they’re very much the call.

And here’s our Pure Win review, with all the info you need to know about a highly recommended PBKS vs CSK betting site who offer generous odds, good bonuses and a top-class live betting product.

PBKS vs CSK Hot Bet

Recommended Bet: Back Dwayne Bravo to be CSK Top Bowler @ 3.26 with 10CRIC

If CSK haven’t had a stand-out man with the bat, they have with the ball.

Dwayne Bravo may be 38 but he hasn’t lost his touch. In seven matches he’s taken 12 wickets, with the next best at CSK being Choudhary and Theekshana with seven each.

He’s also been extremely consistent, taking at least one wicket a game and five in his last two.

As we explain in our top bowler guide, bowling at the earth is a big bonus when looking at a top bowler candidate and Bravo ticks that box, as well.

This is the IPL’s top wicket-taker in history we’re talking about so none of this should come as any surprise and we’re happy to go with Bravo.

Punjab Kings Recent Form

The wheels are coming off for Punjab.

After a decent start where the all-star batting line-up looked like they could set and chase anything, they’re now eighth with just three wins from seven.

What was worse than losing to Delhi on Wednesday was the fact they lost by such a large margin, meaning their net run rate has been badly affected.

Their strategy was mostly based around packing the top and middle order with local and overseas talent and whereas that’s not a bad idea on paper, it’s not going to work when no-one is firing.

All of Shikhar Dhawan, Mayank Agarwal and Jonny Bairstow are out of form and not getting those fifties that were expected of them.

And given their strength is their batting not their bowling, it’s not with the ball they’re going to make up for those shortcomings with the bat.

They probably need to win this one to have a decent chance at making the Playoffs or else they’ll be leaving themselves just too much work to do.

Team News

You can see why they preferred Jonny Bairstow to P Rajapaksa when the Englishman became available given he has the higher reputation and has been successful in the IPL before.

But they’d be well-advised to go back to Rajapaksa.

He scored some crucial cameos at breakneck pace early on with some fearless hitting but Bairstow just hasn’t got going, scoring just 41 runs in four innings with a high score of 12. You’re not going to win many games when an overseas batsman is in that sort of poor form.

Last time out they played Nathan Ellis instead of Odeon Smith and will probably stick with the Aussie paceman here again.

Player to Watch: Shikhar Dhawan

Let’s not forget that Dhawan is the second highest runscorer in the history of the IPL.

After a decent start that included scores of 43 and 70, the runs have dried up for Dhawan and that has certainly hurt the team because openers getting runs is one of the easiest ways of winning games of T20 cricket.

But they need to stick with him. He can be a bit of a flaky player and go through some rough patches but he can also go on a run where he scores three or four fifties in a row.

What Dhawan would really love is a season where he scores mountains of runs and puts himself into contention to be re-called for India at the World Cup.

In truth, that’s unlikely to happen at his age and with other good options at the top of the order but both he and Punjab need his runs right now.

Betway still make him the favourite at 3.25 to top score for them but right now, he’s not looking like he’s got a big score in him.

Here’s our Betway review, where you’ll find out why we recommend it as a trustworthy, safe and extremely reliable IPL betting site.

Chennai Super Kings logo for CSK news in our Chennai Super Kings vs Punjab Kings Predictions IPL 2022

Chennai Super Kings’ Recent Form

At latest they’re making a fist of it.

By winning two of their last three games, at least CSK know that mathematically at least, they’re still in it.

And that should have been three from their three because they really should have won that game against Gujarat last Sunday.

The Titans won from nowhere thanks to an excellent knock from David Miller, Hardik Pandya’s side in the end winning with just one ball to spare.

On Thursday they won off the last ball of the match. And guess who hit the final ball for four?

MS Dhoni found that vital boundary under the utmost pressure as CSK beat Mumbai with a good chase after restricting the Indians to just 155.

That was thanks to some excellent bowling from Mukesh Choudhary (3-19), ably supported by Mitchell Santner and Dwayne Bravo.

In the chase experienced men Ambati Rayudu (40), Dhoni (28) and Dwaine Pretorius (22) got them home.

They’ll probably need to win their next four in a row to have any chance of a Playoff place but it’s not beyond them.

Team News

Moeen Ali was dropped for the last match after not performing with either bat or ball for a few matches in a row.

In came Santner and it proved to be a good move, the Kiwi bowling 1-16 off three overs. He was also promoted to bat at three and did a decent job with 11 off nine balls but we may not see that experiment again so soon.

They also brought in Dwaine Pretorius for Chris Jordan, another who wasn’t performing, and that looked a good move, too.

Pretorius can score some priceless lower-order runs and bowl in the death overs so we may not see Jordan back for a while.

Player to Watch: Ravindra Jadeja

The problem with making one of your best players captain is that it can affect the player’s form and all of a sudden you’ve got a key player struggling.

And you don’t get a player more key than Jadeja. The problem of course is that his form ‘has’ suffered this season.

His bowling has been the better of the two.

He’s taken five wickets in seven games which is ok and he’s been going at just over eight an over. Again, decent, but we’ve seen him bowl better.

But it’s been with the bat that he’s really struggled with a high score of 26 and just 91 runs from seven knocks. By this stage of the season he’d normally have one or two fifties to his name.

He also dropped a couple of catches in that last game, which is unheard of for him.

But it’s hard to keep a man like Jadeja down and a good all-round performance is exactly what they need from their skipper.

It’s 15.0 with Betway that he’s man-of-the-match.

Chennai’s Likely XI

Gaikwad, Uthappa, Rayudu, Dube, Jadeja, Dhoni, Bravo, Pretorius, Santner, Choudhury, Theekshana.

Venue & conditions

It was at the Wankhede Stadium that the Royals posted a monster 222/2 against Delhi, thanks to yet another excellent century from Jos Buttler.

That DC got past 200 in reply tells you this is a very good surface.

Prior to that, RCB got 189 last weekend, also against Delhi, suggesting the par score is around the 190 mark. RCB won that game.

The game before that, the Royals posted a sub-par 165 against Lucknow, which was also enough to win so the last three have all been won by the side batting first, a mostly a rarity in this season’s iPL.

Being an evening game with dew very likely, the tendency will still probably be to chase, though.

But let’s see.

Punjab Kings vs Chennai Super Kings Head-To-Head

CSK are 15-11 up over the years, no surprise given CSK have been far more successful than Punjab in the IPL. They’ve also won four of the last six, though last season it was one win each.

Punjab Kings vs Chennai Super Kings Toss Prediction

Punjab are far more behind in toss wins than match wins. They’ve lost 17 out of 26 so it makes sense to go with CSK to win the toss once again.

TEAM TOSS WIN %
Chennai 17 65.38%
Punjab 9 44.62%
