Delhi Capitals best odds

The best IPL betting sites have the Delhi Capitals at 6.0 to go and do what they’ve never done before and be crowned IPL champions. The price makes them the second-favourites after the Mumbai Indians.

In truth, the odds look about right. There’s a lot to like about their young, exciting, fearless players, particularly in the batting department, and they have as good a set of overseas players as anyone.

But what they don’t have is the experience of winning tight matches at the business end of the tournament and that has to be a concern. Worse still, they’ll be without skipper and key batsman Shreyas Iyer for the whole season after he suffered a bad shoulder injury on India duty.

DC best odds are with 10CRIC and Betway.

Today’s DC match predictions

Has Delhi Capitals won the IPL before?

No. They actually started off decently, making the semis in the first two editions of the IPL. That was a strong-looking squad back then featuring the hard-hitting Virender Sehwag, the prolific Gautam Gambhir, Dinesh Karthik and the inimitable AB de Villiers in their batting line-up. With the ball, Kiwi spinner Daniel Vettori and Ashish Nehra were their main men.

In 2008 they never had a chance in the semis after conceding 192 against the eventual winners the Rajasthan Royals and the following year, their 153 was never going to be enough against the Deccan Chargers, who also went on to win the league that season.

In 2012 they actually topped the group stages with star batters David Warner and Kevin Pietersen added to the roster. They, unfortunately, lost both chances to make the final; by 18 runs to Kolkata Knight Riders and then by a massive 86 runs against MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings.

In 2020 they finally made their first-ever final after a strong campaign throughout. They beat Sunrisers Hyderabad to book their place in the final but ultimately posted a sub-par score against an excellent Mumbai side, who chased their score with relative ease.

DC performance 2020

They finished second in the Group Stages after particularly impressive performances from Anrich Nortje, Kagiso Rabada, Shikhar Dhawan and Shreyas Iyer.

They then lost Qualifier 1 against Mumbai Indians, beat Hyderabad in Qualifier 2 but were well beaten in the final, despite a good knock from Iyer. Again, it was Mumbai who caused their downfall.

Rabada was the top IPL wicket-taker, Dhawan the IPL’s second-highest runscorer.

DC performance 2019

Much better than previous years.

After six seasons of not making the Play-Offs including three years of finishing rock bottom, they put in a decent effort in the Group Stages to finish third.

Shikhar Dhawan, Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer all had stellar seasons with the bat while South African duo Kasigo Rabada and Chris Morris, plus India internationals Ishant Sharma and Amit Mishra, were among those putting in impressive performances with the ball.

The big problem was that their best bowler of all – Rabada – got injured before the Play-Offs. They still managed to knock out Hyderabad in the Eliminator but in their second must-win game against Chennai in the Qualifier 2, their 147 was well below par and Chennai chased it pretty comfortably.

Delhi Capitals Facts

Delhi Capitals Facts

  • Delhi Capitals (previously known as Delhi Daredevils) were rebranded in 2018 to their current name. The team logo was also changed to spark enthusiasm after lacklustre seasons.
  • Delhi Capitals finished in the bottom half of the table through 2013-2018. In 2019, they reached the playoffs for the first time in seven years.
  • In 2020, they went the distance by reaching the final – their first such appearance in the IPL was founded. Unfortunately, they lost to Mumbai Indians.
  • Delhi Capitals are coached by Ricky Ponting, one of Australia’s most successful captains. He joined the team in 2018 and has made a huge impact since his arrival.
  • Ponting is assisted by Mohammad Kaif who serves in the Assistant Coach capacity.

DC team 2021

Wicket-keepers: Sam Billings, Vishnu Vinod, Rishabh Pant (c)

Fast Bowlers: Umesh Yadav, Ishant Sharma, Lukman Meriwala, Anrich Nortje, Kagiso Rabada, Avesh Khan

Crown to represent the Casptain of DC

Captain: Rishabh Pant

He’s the first-choice wicket-keeper batsman for India at the moment in Test and limited-overs cricket. In addition to being solid with the gloves, he’s a typically explosive modern-day middle-order batsman.

He certainly thinks nothing of hitting the first ball he faces for six, if necessary. A strike rate of 156 in domestic T20 cricket tells you all you need to know about how dangerous he can be. He’s the favourite to take over the captaincy with Iyer out injured.

Pant is now of our picks for IPL 2021 player of the season.

Trophy to represent the Gun player at DC

Gun player: Kagiso Rabada

Kagiso Rabada was the IPL’s top wicket-taker last year by some distance, claiming early wickets in just about every match and plenty more in the death overs. His pace and aggression are a match for any batsman in the world and he’ll surely form a potent partnership with Anrich Nortje once more with the new ball.

Medal to represent Promising youngster at DC

Promising youngster: Prithvi Shaw

It’s easy to forget that Prithvi Shaw is still only 21. He had a poor season last time out after getting out to one too many rash shots but this is his chance at redemption. He’ll be even more important now that Iyer is out for the season.

Delhi Capitals team analysis

Our preview of the Delhi Capitals so far hasn’t really emphasised enough how strong their batting line-up is. They could play Dhawan, Shaw, Pant, Ajinkya Rahane, Marcus Stoinis and Shimron Hetmyer as a Top Six and Mumbai aside, there might not be a better batting line-up in the tournament than that.

They also have no less than four top-notch spinners in Axar Patel, Amit Mishra and India’s current test spinner Ravi Ashwin to call upon. The problem is their fast bowling stocks, where only Rabada (out for the first of the week IPL anyway) and Nortje are the only real class acts. Both will need to play but that limits their choices when it comes to their other two overseas players.

The smart money is on them making the Play-Offs but falling short of going all the way. The better Delhi Capitals betting prediction might be to go with uber-experienced run-machine Dhawan, who as an opener in a good team, could score plenty. We backed him at 15.0 last season only for him to finish just a few runs short of KL Rahul in second place.

Recommended bet: Back Shikhar Dhawan to be IPL top run-scorer @ 13.0 with 10CRIC.

A tick to represent the strengths of Delhi Capitals

Strengths

  • Best spin bowling resources in the tournament.
  • Powerful and classy batting top order.
  • Lots of high-quality overseas players to pick from.

An X to represent the weaknesses of Delhi Capitals

Weaknesses

  • Not well-stocked in the pace bowling department.
  • Were really poor in the final last year.

Delhi Capitals FAQs

They’re 6.0 which makes them second-favourites behind only Mumbai. There’s plenty to like about them and in Pant, Stoinis, Rabada and Ashwin they have real game-changers. But last season they may have had their best shot at IPL glory.

Shikhar Dhawan is the favourite for Delhi top batsman honours for this year’s IPL. The 35-year old has played over 250 times for India across the three formats and has featured in every season of the IPL

They’re 8.0 with Betway. Finishing last is nothing new to Delhi, who have done so on four different occasions, the last of which was in 2018. But after good showings in 2019 and 2020, it’s unlikely they’ll finish rock bottom again anytime soon.

Shimron Hetmyer, Chris Woakes, Marcus Stoinis, Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, Steve Smith, Sam Billings and Tom Curran.
