Delhi Capitals  Team News

The break didn’t do the Capitals any harm because theirs was a masterful performance against the Sunrisers Hyderabad on Wednesday.

Yes, SRH are rock bottom and that’s probably where they’ll end up, but the Capitals put in a near-perfect performance.

Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje and Axar Patel took seven wickets between them. Even though it was Rabada who took three, it was Nortje who was adjudged the man-of-the-match with his two wickets costing just 12 runs.

In response, they were clinical in the chase. There was a typically efficient 42 off 37 from Shikhar Dhawan and Shreyas Iyer, playing his first IPL game of the season after injury, got 47 off 41.

Rishabh Pant, who has been appointed skipper on a full-time basis ahead of Iyer, smashed 35 off 21.

If there are any weaknesses in this Delhi side, I’m not sure what they are right now because they seem to have all the bases covered.

Delhi Likely XI

Dhawan, Shaw, Iyer, Pant, Stoinis, Hetmyer, Patel, Ashwin, Rabada, Nortje, Khan.

Rajasthan Royals  Team News

What a heist!

If they’d played those last two overs against the Punjab Kings 100 times, the Royals would have lost the game 99 times. But they didn’t.

The Kings were flying and had wickets in hand so I’m not sure what the problem was. But a combination of somewhat poor batting, a couple of dodgy umpiring decisions and some brilliant bowling from Mustafizur Rahman and Kartik Tyagi of the Royals meant it was them who somehow ended victorious.

It almost doesn’t seem possible but Tyagi’s last over went for just one run and he took two wickets in it.

It means that they’re now in a position to go fourth if they win their game in hand over KKR.

It also means that after Mumbai lost back-to-back games, there’s a real danger that the defending champions may not even make the Playoffs.

Debutant Liam Livingstone ended up falling to a brilliant catch but his 25 off 17 may be a sign of things to come. He looks like a real player.

Rajasthan Likely XI

Lewis, Jaiswal, Samson, Livingstone, Lomror, Parag, Tewatia, Morris, Sakariya, Tyagi, Rahman.

Venue & conditions

Abu Dhabi has so far seen RCB get all out for 92 and Mumbai manage 155.  On both occasions, the side batting second won pretty comfortably. That suggests two things: that the side batting first isn’t posting nearly as many runs as they should.

And that chasing is an advantage here.

Delhi Capitals v Rajasthan Royals Head-to-Head

Things are very tight between these two. It’s the Royals who are 12-11 up but Delhi have won five of the last six.

That’s not that surprising. Delhi had a period where they really struggled but have been pretty good for the last three seasons while the Royals haven’t. So it’s understandable that Delhi have had the better of things recently.

Delhi Capitals v  Rajasthan Royals Toss Prediction

If the Royals have just about had the better of things in terms of winning games, then it’s Delhi who are ahead on coin toss wins.

Go with Pant of Delhi to win the toss again.

Recommended Bet: Back Delhi Capitals to win @ 1.58 with Pure Win

I really don’t like recommending teams at just 1.58 in T20 cricket betting but I’m not left with much choice here.

Alongside CSK, Delhi have been the outstanding team in this year’s IPL. They’re picking the right players, they have men in form, they’re well captained and have developed a winning habit.

The Royals have done pretty well so far given their injury problems with the likes of Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer, plus the absence of Jos Buttler. They may still make the Playoffs.

But there’s no way that Delhi will be as forgiving as the Kings were the other day.

Yes, the Royals are still slightly ahead on the head-to-head between the two but the fact that Delhi have won five of the last six is a better indication of things. Go with Delhi.

DC v RR Hot Bet

Recommended Bet: Back Kartik Tyagi to be Rajsthan Top Bowler @ 6.0 with Pure Win

Kartik Tyagi won’t forget that match against the Kings, and in particular that last over, till the day he dies.

Yes, there was some poor decision-making from the Kings’ batsmen who should have looked to take a risk much sooner. But give credit to Tyagi, as well.

He’ll be feeling full of confidence, is obviously bowling well and should get four overs again to impress.

With all that in mind, there’s no way in the world he should be available at odds of 6.0, as explained in our top bowler betting guide. So we have to go with him.

Delhi Capitals v Rajasthan Royals fun facts

Let’s round things off with some fun facts ahead of the game.

  • Shikhar Dhawan is the highest run scorer in the IPL with 422 runs from nine games. Last year he finished second, only behind KL Rahul.
  • Kagiso Rabada, last year’s top wicket-taker may just replicate his efforts from last year. Having taken three wickets the other day, he’s now on 11, with HV Patel on 17.
  • The Royals won this fixture when it was played in April. Jaydev Unadkat was man-of-the match after dismissing all of Delhi’s Top 3 in the batting.
