Rajasthan Team News
Rajasthan Royals are one of the very few teams in the IPL 14 that are banking primarily on local talent.
This is also a big test for Sanju Samson who will be captaining the side this season and has his task cut out for him with the bat as well. While he has some captaincy experience in domestic tournaments, IPL is an entirely different ball game.
Meanwhile, Jofra Archer is set to miss out on early IPL action on account of his surgery. This leaves quite a bit of pressure on the likes of Chris Morris and Mustafizur Rahman, their two new signings of the season.
Batting-wise, expectations will be high from David Miller, Jost Buttler, and Ben Stokes.
Keep in mind that this team is largely untested and is likely to face a few challenges along the way.
Likely XI: Buttler, Samson, Stokes, Morris, Gopal, Tewatia, Unadkat, Tyagi, Markande, Vohra, Jaiswal
Punjab Team News
Punjab Kings are undoubtedly fielding one of the strongest squads in the IPL. With so many big names and talented stars to choose from, Anil Kumble has certainly got an interesting conundrum in his hands.
The team will be led by KL Rahul, who is coming off a brilliant run in the India-England Series. They have also got Mayank Agarwal, Chris Gayle, and #1 T20I Batsman in the world – Dawid Malan.
Then, you also have Moises Henriques and Jhye Richardson – both of whom had a sensational time in the Big Bash League last season.
Henriques led the Sydney Sixers to the title while Richardson was the league’s leading wicket-taker.
Similarly, Riley Meredith and Chris Jordan also present a significant threat in the bowling department.
Likely XI: Agarwal, Rahul, Gayle, Henriques, Pooran, Richardson, Shami, Bishnoi, Khan, Singh, Saxena
Venue & conditions
The match will be played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai which is generally a high-scoring ground and has a few short boundaries too.
As evident from the first match in the venue, this a turf where it is more than possible to score upwards of 150-160 runs. And when you have hitters like Gayle and Rahul in the team, that figure can very well increase.
RR vs PK Head-to-Head
Rajasthan are up 12-9 in the head-to-head tally but don’t let that deter you from backing Punjab Kings. There is also revenge on the cards for the Punjab side, seeing that they lost both of their ties to the Royals last season.
In terms of toss winners, Rajasthan Royals lead the way again although, it is only a marginal lead. Interestingly, they also won the toss in both of their wins over Punjab Kings in the IPL 2020.
