Real Madrid vs FC Barcelona Head to Head

  • In the 245 times the two teams have met, Madrid lead the Catalans 97-96 in all competitions
  • Madrid have also won 2 of their last 3 meetings in a row
  • They last met in October 2020 in the reverse leg fixture where Barca lost 3-1 in an empty stadium

FC Barcelona to win: why is this a good bet?

El Clasico has always been one of those fixtures that can very well go either way. This time around, we are predicting that the scales will shift in the favour of FC Barcelona.

The reason for this is simple – a lot has changed for the Catalans since they lost to their nemesis back in October. From a new club president to adapting under Ronald Koeman, there has been quite a bit of transformation here.

The team has picked itself up in many ways and has managed to find its winning rhythm again.

Granted that they did crash out of the Champions League but in La Liga, they have climbed up to 2nd place in the table from a horrible start to the season on the back of consistent performances.

Lionel Messi is also in a good form; he has scored 23 goals in the league and more than 70% of those goals came in 2021.

Moreover, Barcelona have not lost a single match since losing to PSG 4-1 back in February. They are on a 9-match unbeaten streak and recently, have beaten the likes of SD Huesca by 4-1 and Real Sociedad by 6-1.

Lionel Messi is expected to score against Real Madrid on Saturday.

Last weekend, they beat Real Valladolid 1-0 in a thrilling game that saw Ousmane Dembele score the winner in the dying minutes of the game.

And it is not just Messi who is scoring – Dembele, Antoine Griezmann, and Sergino Dest have also been in a decent goal-scoring run.

Lastly, the driving factor for them will be the motivation to win and put themselves back on the map again. After going through an identity crisis in the first half of the season, they are on the way to make amends for it. More than that, the boys are hungry for a big win.

What about Real Madrid?

Things are definitely looking good for Zinedine Zidane’s men at the moment. Trailing Barcelona at third place by just 2 points, Real Madrid is currently on a 12-match unbeaten streak.

They have won 10 of those matches, including their recent Champions League fixture against Liverpool by 3-1. In La Liga, they recently defeated Eibar, Elche, Celta Vigo. However, these wins may not have been as massive as Barcelona’s in their league campaign.

However, Zidane needs to consider that the second-leg fixture against Liverpool is just days away. So, it is yet to be seen if he will choose his best playing XI on Saturday or rest his key players ahead of the mid-week fixture.

In either case, it seems like the Frenchman hasn’t got much of a choice. Plus, with Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane no longer available in defence (latter testing positive for the Covid-19), he also faces a problem in the backline.

Ramos won’t be available for the El Clasico this weekend.

Amidst the absence of their star defenders, Real Madrid will most likely find themselves on the back foot and under pressure Barca’s in-form, dangerous attack.

Plus, they also need to consider that Barca have won their last 9 away matches in La Liga.

Over 2.5 goals to be scored: Why is this a good bet?

For a game of this stature, it is hard to believe that we will see under 2.5 goals, especially given the current spirits of the attackers right now. Griezmann will be keen on celebrating the birth of his third child with a goal, while Messi seeks his first El-Clasico goal in almost three years.

It is for the same reason that we predict this game to see goals from both sides.
