Scotland vs Namibia Betting Odds

Today’s Scotland v Namibia betting odds have Scotland as favourites but I’m not sure that’s right. Namibia have been impressive so far and will face a Scottish side fresh from a bad beating against Afghanistan.

There are also cricket betting tips on the toss winner and I’ve picked Scotland’s most consistent batsman to star with the bat, a tip that’s especially for our Indian readers.

Scotland Team News

Scotland were on the receiving end of a beating by Afghanistan. There’s no other way to put it.

They conceded a huge 190/4, the biggest total of the tournament proper so far by some distance.

The main reason for that monster score was that they were on the receiving end of some savage hitting from the likes of Hazratullah Zazai and Najbullah Zadran.

There was some excellent stroke play by the Afghan batsmen but the truth is Scotland’s bowling was nowhere near good enough.

As it happens, they actually got off to a decent start with the bat in reply with George Munsey finding the boundary with regularity against the quicks in the first few overs.

But once the spinners came on, that was that.

Mujeeb Ur Rahman took five wickets, Rashid Khan took four.

Scotland were bowled out for just 60 and were on the receiving end of one of the biggest thrashings ever seen at a T20 WC.

It makes you fear for them and what might happen against even better sides. The good news is that this is the one match they could win.

Scotland Likely XI

Munsey, Coetzer, Mcleod, Berrington, Cross, Leask, Greaves, Watt, Davey, Sharif, Wheal.

Namibia Team News

Namibia will be thanking their lucky stars that their first game is against Scotland.

It means they can go into it without bearing the scars of a beating against the likes of India or Pakistan and can take the momentum from an excellent performance in qualifying into this match.

One thing they have in their favour is an inspirational captain who motivates his players and gets the most out of them.

Batting at three, skipper Gerhard Erasmus also has some runs under his belt after scores of 32 and 53 in his last two knocks.

Veteran Craig Williams is a good player as well playing as an opening batsman. He has two T20 centuries to his name.

But the real star of course is David Wiese.

The former South Africa international, who switched allegiances, is a class act with the bat whose scores of 66 not out and 28 not out alongside some wickets saw him pick up two man of the match awards in a row, in the last two qualifying games.

Without him, they wouldn’t be here.

Namibia’s Likely XI

Williams, Green, Erasmus, Wiese, Van Lingen, Smit, Frylinck, France, Loftie-Eaton, Trumpelmann, Scholz.

Venue & conditions

After the games played here in Abu Dhabi at this World Cup, the split between teams batting first and second winning the game is almost 50/50.

This is an evening match and as we know, dew can come into play. Having said that, neither side is spin-heavy in terms of their bowling so it should be less of a factor than it is for the teams who field two or three frontline spinners.

But with what par scores are currently being a mystery to everyone, the easy option is to chase anyway. And if dew comes into it, so much the better for the chaser.

Scotland vs Namibia Head-to-Head

It’s 4-4 on the head to head but let’s consider how relevant that may be. Namibia have won the last three. The first of those was back in 2012  so is of little relevance, the second of those was in 2019, which is more relevant and perhaps most crucially, the last of those was just a week ago in the qualifiers.

Namibia chased 132 with over two overs to spare.  So it’s been all Namibia recently and they’ll be well aware of that.

Scotland vs Namibia Toss Prediction

Let’s look at Scotland v Namibia toss winner statistics. What I didn’t explain above was that five of those matches between them weren’t ‘official’ games.

So there are only three official tosses to speak of: Namibia won them all. Makes sense to go with Namibia to win the toss again then.

Scotland vs Namibia Winner Prediction

Recommended Bet: Namibia to win @ 2.28 with Purewin

Time for our match prediction. I find it highly surprising that Scotland are slight favourites here. They were badly exposed against Afghanistan. Fine, one bad performance against a side who can be really dangerous on their day doesn’t tell the full story.

But they don’t have any genuine pace in the side or a particularly able spinner so can always be vulnerable when defending.

The truth is that Namibia are largely dependent on three or four players, including of course Erasmus and Wiese, but they’re better players than what Scotland have.

Namibia have after all won the last three and the last of those just over a week ago, so they’ll remember what got them over the line in that one.

I make Namibia favourites for my money so we have to go with them.

Today’s Scotland vs Namibia Hot Bet

Recommended Bet: Richard Berrington to be Scotland top batsman @ 4.30 with 10CRIC

It’s very tempting to go with that man David Wiese in any of three markets: top batsman, top bowler or man of the match.

But as good as he’s been, no-one can come out and do it every game. If he does, good on him but three in a row might be a bit much.

Instead, I’ll go with Scotland’s class act with the bat to top score.

For starters Richard Berrington has been their highest scorer so far this tournament. 103 runs in four games isn’t that much but then again, he hasn’t had much to beat.

He’s their only player to get a fifty so far at the World Cup and boasts the best career stats of any of them.

Six fifties in 70 games isn’t particularly great but an average of 32 in both domestic and international T20 is very respectable.

Like we say, these are better numbers than the other Scottish batsmen and batting at four,he should have a decent chance.

Scotland vs Namibia fun statistics

Let’s round things off with some quick stats ahead of the game.

  • Richard Berrington has hundreds in all formats: ODIs, T20s, T20Is, first class cricket and List A games.
  • David Wiese played T20 and ODI cricket for South Africa, then became a Kolpak player, then opted to play for Namibia earlier this year.
  • Gerhard Erasmus has hit exactly twice as many fours (52) as he has sixes (26) in his T20I career.
  • Namibia have won their last three in a row against Scotland.
