In what is certainly a huge boost for Bangladesh’s World Cup preparations, the Tigers will play host to New Zealand in a five-match T20 International series, starting September 1.
The action will follow an ongoing Australia’s tour in the country which also features the same number of T20 matches.
With back to back meetings against the two formidable sides in the world of cricket, Bangladesh will have plenty of time and opportunities to fine-tune the strategies ahead of the T20 World Cup.
The Black Caps will play their first T20I game against Bangladesh on September 1 while the final game will be played on September 10. All matches will be hosted in the Shere Bangla Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka.
Unlike the series with Australia which is seeing matches on consecutive days, this upcoming series against New Zealand has been planned with at least a day’s gap between every match. The New Zealand contingent will arrive in Dhaka on August 24 in line with the quarantine protocols.
A Lot to Make Up for
Bangladesh have met New Zealand 10 times in T20 cricket – including thrice this season. The hosts have lost all 10 of those games.
This will be the second time that the two teams will meet in a bilateral, limited over series in 2021. Bangladesh toured New Zealand in April where they lost all their matches. But seeing how they are re-writing history against Australia, they will fancy their chances when they take on the Kiwis too.
The series will end nine days before the Indian Premier League, set to resume on September 19.
