The match starts on Wednesday, May 4 at 7.30 pm IST and is a real IPL classic between two sides who seem to take this fixture more seriously than the rest. It’s also a match between two former India captains with MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli going head-to-head for the umpteenth time.

RCB vs CSK Betting Odds

For my cricket betting tips on this game, I’m going with CSK to win it. Whereas CSK are a side on the up after a poor start, RCB are a side on the slide after a strong start.

So the momentum is with the team in yellow and as we’ll see later on in this RCB v CSK preview, their head to head record in this fixture is excellent.

I’ll also have my usual toss winner pick and the RCB vs CSK betting odds for my Hot Bet: a third tip at bigger odds than usual.

I’m going with CSK middle-order stalwart Ambati Rayudu to use all his experience and skill to get to a decent score here and at big odds, let’s hope it’s enough for him to be CSK top batsman.

RCB vs CSK Betting Winner Prediction

Recommended Bet: Back CSK to win @ 1.98 with Pure Win

CSK are 1.98 outsiders.

If this was a week and a half ago, we wouldn’t be interested in them at all at those odds.

But they look in better shape under Dhoni (see below), they’re a superior team with Jadeja just there as a player and will be high on confidence after a really good win over SRH at the weekend.

And with those two openers having played so well on Sunday, they’ll be confident about another all-important good partnership once again.

RCB are heading in the opposite direction, having been tournament favourites after a couple of games.

The ‘Kohli issue’ is addressed below but there are other problems within the team, starting with the fact that no batsman has been consistent for the whole tournament.

Even top run scorers du Plessis and Dinesh Karthik seem to have lost their mojo.

Add to that the excellent head-to-head record CSK have in this fixture and you can see why we’re going with the men in yellow.

And here’s our Pure Win review, with all the info you need to know about a highly recommended betting site who offer generous odds, good bonuses and a top-class live betting product.

Plus of course, all the latest RCB vs CSK betting markets and odds.

RCB vs CSK Hot Bet

Recommended Bet: Back Ambati Rayudu to be CSK Top Batsman @ 6.61 with 10CRIC

Conway and Gaikwad hung around for so long on Sunday against SRH that hardly anyone else got to bat!

Other than balls faced by those two, there were just eight faced by other players.

Of course, Conway and Gaikwad hold the trump cards as opening batsman, as we discuss in our top batsman guide.

But it’s very rare for that to happen and going out and playing another fine knock in the very next game is easier said than done.

So at far bigger odds, Ambati Rayudu makes appeal. He’s been their most consistent batsman this season and was their top bat in the match for two consecutive games prior to that one on Sunday.

It could be his turn to do it all over again.

Royal Challengers Bangalore Recent Form

It wasn’t a good week for RCB.

Back to back losses against Gujarat and Rajasthan has them now back into fifth place after starting so brightly.

Interestingly, they were both games they should have won.

Against the Titans at the weekend they failed to make the most of a good start by not capitalising on the death overs when they were batting.

And were then guilty of letting Gujarat off the hook when having dismissed Gujarat’s main dangermen, they let a partnership build, couldn’t break it, and paid the price.

Against the Royals last week, they failed to get to grips with a surface that was tricky and needed sensible batting, not getting anywhere near a very achievable total in a game that could have made a big difference to their season.

They need to go on a good run now or risk missing out on the Playoffs.

Team News

RCB fans will be thinking ‘at least Kohli got some runs at last’ and to an extent they’d be right.

His 58 off 53 was his first score in a long time, but the problem was it was a bit too slow.

Or far too slow, to be precise. It came off 53 balls and had he scored at a faster rate, or got out so others could have scored at a faster rate, it could have made all the difference.

But Kohli is Kohli, he’s not going to be dropped and the only difference here might be his batting position.

Then again, given he got 50 (irrespective of the strike rate) and that Rajat Patidar got a brisk 52 batting at number three and you can see they may be tempted to go with the same team again.

Josh Hazlewood has had a quiet couple of games after starting so brightly and they’ll need some more big performances from him again.

Player to Watch: Hasaranga de Silva

Much was expected of Hasaranga this season after impressing for Sri Lanka at last year’s T20 World Cup, where he was the tournament’s top wicket taker.

RCB will also have been hoping he could come up with some cameos with the bat at number seven or eight, something he also did on occasion for Sri Lanka at the World Cup.

He’s certainly done his job when it comes to bowling, taking 15 wickets in 10 games, which is an excellent return, while his economy rate of just over eight is superb, too.

If he can just chip in with some runs, which RCB have been lacking, he’ll be a contender for Team of the Tournament.

Betway make it 3.6 he’s their top bowler., 2.0 that he takes a wicket and 11.0 he’s man of the match.

Here’s our Betway review, where you’ll find out why we recommend it as a trustworthy, safe and extremely reliable KKR vs betting site.

Bangalore’s Likely XI

Kohli, Du Plessis, Bharat, Maxwell, Karthik, Shabhaz, Lomror, Hasaranga, Patel, Hazlewood, Siraj.

Chennai’s Recent Form

MS Dhoni was captain once again and all of a sudden, they won.

We’re not suggesting that’s the only reason why CSK won but they do look more comfortable with the great man at the helm and it makes you wonder why the captaincy was handed over to Ravindra Jadeja in the first place.

Dhoni spoke in the aftermath of that win about the extra workload on Jadeja and his usual preparations and the obvious move is for Dhoni to stay as captain till the end of the season.

A superb 99 from Ruturaj Gaikwad and an impressive 85 not out from Devon Conway got them to over 200 on Sunday and SRH never looked like getting anywhere near it.

So Chennai stay ninth on six points. Theoretically they could win all their remaining matches, hope other results go their way and still make the Playoffs, but it’s all quite unlikely.

They’re paying for earlier mistakes.

Team News

Dwayne Bravo missed the last match with injury and in came Devon Conway, who for the first time this season, ensured CSK actually got off to a good start.

Given the poor results CSK have had so far this season, Conway can feel unlucky at not having had any earlier chances.

Assuming they want to keep Conway in the side and that Bravo is fit and good to go, one of Mitchell Santner or Dwayne Pretorius is likely to miss out.

Player to Watch: MS Dhoni

On the issue of the captaincy, one has to wonder if it wasn’t the case that Dhoni was going to retire at the end of this season meaning CSK wanted to have Jadeja in charge in 2022, with Dhoni as his on-field mentor.

But for whatever reason, it hasn’t worked out for them. They’re almost out of the competition and Jadeja’s form dipped, with both bat and ball.

Whether Dhoni does indeed retire at the end of the season on a low note and whether Jadeja has another go at the captaincy, both remain to be seen.

But whatever happens, we’ll have at least a few more games of Dhoni running the show behind the stumps, calling the shots, gesturing, applauding, always with that calm persona of his.

Enjoy while it lasts because he may not return next year at all.

Chennais’ Likely XI

Conway, Gaikwad, Uthappa, Rayudu, Dube, Jadeja, Dhoni, Bravo, Pretorius, Choudhary, Theekshana.

Venue & conditions

Pune isn’t one of the easier grounds to work out.

After the Royals posted just 144 to beat RCB comfortably and Lucknow got 153 to also beat Punjab with relative ease, you’d think that this was a tough wicket on which to get to 160, and an even tougher one in which to chase that.

But maybe not.

This is where CSK themselves got 202 and SRH’s reply of 189 was proof there wasn’t much wrong with the surface at all.

So it’s not easy to predict the par score but it’s worth remembering that all of the last three were won by the side batting first.

Royal Challengers Bangalore v Chennai Super Kings Head-To-Head

It’s been very much one-way traffic in this fixture over the years with CSK winning it 19 times, to Bangalore’s nine. Even allowing for the fact that CSK have been the more successful side in the IPL over the years, that’s some beating.

Royal Challengers Bangalore v Chennai Super Kings Toss Prediction

TEAM TOSS WIN %
Chennai 19 65%
Bangalore 10 35%

CSK are streets ahead when it comes to toss wins, as well (10-19). Then again, all those toss wins may help to explain why they have such a good record in this fixture. Let’s go with CSK to win the toss yet again.
