Sharma, Pant, Sundar take India ahead

After losing a wicket in the first over of the first innings, India seemed to be off to a shaky start.

However, Rohit Sharma put in a well-respected performance with a 144-ball 49 opener shortly after.

Wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant performed extremely well for India, hitting 13 fours and 2 sixes in his 118-ball 101.

His efforts scoring a well-compiled century helped put India well ahead of the English opponents before falling to James Anderson.

After a short 32-ball 13 from Ashwin, Batsman Washington Sundar finished the day with an exceptional 117-ball 60.

He was at the crease alongside Axar Patel (11) at the draw of stumps.

England’s bowlers

For England, James Anderson (3/40) was the best bowler – taking 3 wickets.

Ben Stokes (2/73) and Jack Leach (2/66) also accounted for two wickets each.

India on course for final Test victory

India now lead by 89 runs with three wickets in hand and are leading the series 2-1.

They only need a draw to qualify for the World Test Championship final against New Zealand in June 2021.
