India vs New Zealand T20I Series: Men in Blue Off to a Winning Start

Playing in their first international competition of the season, the Indian team have started their tour on a stunning note. Playing New Zealand in a 5-match T20I Series, the Boys in Blue started their journey with a thumping victory against the hosts. Looking to win their first tournament against the Black Caps as visitors, Virat Kohli and Co. defeated New Zealand by 6 wickets in what proved to be a high-octane encounter.

Solid Start for the Kiwis

India won the toss and chose to bowl – a decision that may not have been favoured by many. The Kiwis got off to a scintillating start and retained that momentum throughout the innings. Colin Munro, Kane Williamson, and Ross Taylor each scored a half century, while Martin Guptill’s contribution of 30 from 19 balls took the score to 203 runs in 20 overs.

In the bowling department, the Indian side managed just five wickets, with Shardul Thakur and Mohammad Shami proving to be the most expensive bowlers. The duo went for well over 90 runs, taking just one wicket. At the end, the Boys in Blue had a target of 204 from 20 overs.

Indian Innings – A Fighting Spirit

When visitors came on to bat, Rohit Sharma fell quite early and soon, India were 16-1. But the impressive partnership of Lokesh Rahul and Virat Kohli gave them a fighting chance, as the duo took the score to 100 at the end of the 9th over. Lokesh scored 56 off 27 balls while Virat went for 45 off 32. This partnership, however, was broken by the end of the 12th over, with both the Ish Sodhi and Blair Tickner taking the wickets.

Shreyas Iyer and Shivam Dube were the two new batsmen at the crease. With run-rate fairly on track, it was up to the boys to bring the victory home. The run-rate was close to 10 per over, but Iyer’s 58 from 29 balls proved to be a decisive turn in the match. That, combined with the 11 extras given by the New Zealand bowlers also aided the cause of the Indian Team.

At the end, India managed to achieve the target of 204 with six balls to spare. By all means, this was a commanding victory and the visitors have certainly set the tone for the rest of the series. From a cricket betting perspective, this is certainly exciting. The next match will be played at the same venue on Sunday. With similar playing conditions, there is no reason why we can’t expect some quality cricket again. Be sure to check out the latest odds and betting tips for the India – New Zealand Series right here.
