No Reprieve in Sight for Hyderabad
Sunrisers Hyderabad have now lost five of their six IPL games so far and there seems to be no end in sight to their poor run.
After losing to Delhi Capitals in the Super Over despite a good show, their bad luck found its way in the game against Chennai too.
Batting first, SRH were off to a good start, thanks to David Warner’s excellent half-century. Jonny Bairstow didn’t stay for long, paving the way for Manish Pandey.
Pandey’s half-century and a couple of brief cameos by Kane Williamson and Kedar Jadhav toward the end helped Hyderabad post their largest first inning total in the IPL 2021.
SRH Top Batsmen
- Manish Pandey: 61 off 46; 5 4s, 1 6s
- David Warner: 57 off 55; 3 4s, 2 6s
CSK Top Bowlers
- Sam Curran: 1-30, 4 overs
- Lungi Ngidi: 2-35, 4 overs
There wasn’t a lot that Chennai could do with the ball here. Despite bringing their best bowlers forward, it was the batsmen who were at advantage at the new pitch in Delhi.
Ngidi picked a couple of wickets to be the CSK’s top bowler for the day.
Chennai Continue their Fine Form
Chennai Super Kings are now unbeaten in their last five matches as they comfortably lead the table with 10 points and an excellent net run rate.
There has been a massive attitude shift in the team that is responsible for bringing this positive turnaround.
MS Dhoni would also be pleased with the fact that Ruturaj Gaikwad is finally starting to find his groove and play his part as the opener. His inning of 75 runs helped him become the Man of the Match and also propel CSK to a fine win.
Faf du Plessis also had a good time as he posted yet another half-century.
CSK Top Batsmen
- Ruturaj Gaikwad: 75 off 44; 12 4s
- Faf du Plessis: 56 off 38; 6 4s, 1 6s
SRH Top Bowlers
- Rashid Khan: 3-36, 4 overs
Gaikwad and du Plessis fell in the second half of the chase but by then, the damage was already done. CSK were marching imperiously to the target of 172 runs with an excellent run rate.
Moeen Ali scored 15 off 8 while Ravindra Jadeja and Suresh Raina saw to the task toward the end of the inning.
All in all, CSK won the match with 9 balls to spare.
