The Delhi Capitals will be 1 man short in Thursday’s game against Rajasthan Royals in Mumbai. The South African bowler, Anrich Nortje, has met delays in receiving his COVID-19 test results. He has been in quarantine since he arrived in India last week with Kagiso Rabada.
Extended quarantine for now
The bowling pair arrived in India on April 6th just after the second ODI between South Africa and Pakistan. They have been isolating ever since and were due to come out of it on April 13th – as per the one-week guidelines set out by the Indian Premier League.
It is not known exactly what has caused the delay in Hortje’s test results. There is speculation, however, that the recent lockdown in Maharastra has had a direct impact on this.
Rabada, on the other hand, has received his negative test in time for the game.
The Capitals in a tricky situation
This news puts the Capitals in a difficult situation as they were likely to have included Nortje within their XI. This means that Shimron Hetmyer is likely to play again in his absence.
Luckily for the DC side, David Miller – who was on the same flight as Rabada & Nortje, will be available to play. This was confirmed on Wednesday, April 14th.
Kagiso Rabada will be missed in Thursday’s game. He had an impressive year in IPL 2020, having picked up 22 wickets in 16 games.
